Kyselovice: Church, Crosses and Lively Village Traditions

A Place of Nature Competitions, Sport and Baroque History

Kyselovice shows its character not only through individual sights, but also through traditional events and distinctive details in the village landscape. For families, Medvědí stezkou is particularly unusual: this traditional nature competition is intended for children and combines practical outdoor tasks with a route along field roads, forest paths and through densely wooded terrain. The tasks include knot tying, map reading and building fire pits. The competition therefore focuses on doing things together in nature.

The sports calendar also offers an insight into local life. The mixed-doubles tennis tournament has been a firmly established tradition since 2005; on one occasion, both tennis courts were used. At the traditional Sportovní odpoledne on the sports field, a Bränball tournament for mixed teams was the main item on the programme. In addition to short-distance races, the Kyselovská tretra 2026 featured an endurance run as well as throwing competitions with grenades and tennis balls. The documented range of events thus extends from recreational competitions to endurance and skill-based disciplines.

On 26 April 2025, Kyselovice hosted the 20th edition of the “O Zlatou proudnici Hané” competition, organised by the Kyselovice Volunteer Fire Brigade. The competition included a relay for two-person teams. Such specific event formats make Kyselovice an interesting destination if you would like to experience community-oriented activities in addition to local history.

Church, Statues and Crosses in the Village Landscape

The Church of the Guardian Angels stands at the centre of the cultural attractions. It was built in the Neo-Gothic style between 1904 and 1906. Its unusual north–south orientation is striking; the tower at the entrance is 37 metres high. There is also a marble cross from 1906 beside the church. The choir of Občanská beseda Kyselovice performs in the church gallery at Christmas, during church consecration festivals and on the Feast of Corpus Christi.

Several religious monuments complement this picture. The oldest of the four crosses in Kyselovice is a Baroque cross from 1769. Another cross from 1894 stands outside Kyselovice on the road towards Chropyně. The cemetery cross is made of Carrara marble and probably dates from around 1900. There are also two Baroque statues: the statue of Saint John of Nepomuk dates from the second quarter of the 18th century and stands opposite the former school in the middle of the village green. The statue of Saint Vendelín was created in 1769 and is located at a junction of state roads.

Traditional Festivals and Regional Impressions

At the 2025 Vepřové hody, traditional pork products were sold, soup was served and meals were provided. There was also a tasting of traditional slaughterhouse specialities.
