Bezměrov on the Haná River

Bezměrov combines riverside landscapes, early settlement history and routes for a variety of excursion ideas. The village lies on the right bank of the Haná River, which flows directly through Bezměrov. The landscape is therefore not merely a backdrop, but a defining element of the village. Bezměrov can also be reached by bus and train, making it a suitable starting point for a trip that brings together natural and cultural themes.

Between the Haná, Morava and protected landscapes

To the north of Bezměrov's cadastral area lies the Morava–Chropyňský luh European protected area. Those interested in river landscapes and protected areas will therefore find Bezměrov to be a place with several different natural connections: the Haná flows directly through the village, while a hiking route along the Morava opens up another important landscape perspective. One specific excursion leads to Dombas Pond, located approximately 1 kilometre from Bezměrov. Sport fishing is possible there on a “catch and release” basis. Donbas Pond lies approximately 200 metres beyond the bridge and is suitable for relaxing and fishing.

Hikes with different focuses

The circular hiking route from Bezměrov to Hradisko begins in Bezměrov and is approximately 6.5 kilometres long. It is recommended for families with children, cyclists and tourists. The route thus offers a clearly described way to combine a stay with a manageable hiking distance, without Bezměrov having to be understood exclusively as a nature destination. The Cyril and Methodius hiking trail crosses the bridge in Bezměrov and follows the Morava River. Along this section, visitors can observe the Morava river basin.

History and local features

Bezměrov is first mentioned in 1078 in a deed of foundation issued by Otto I, the Prince of Olomouc, for Hradisko Monastery near Olomouc. The village is also considered one of the oldest Slavic settlements. An old trade route from the southern to the northern lands ran near Bezměrov. These historical connections give the village a longer developmental perspective extending beyond individual visible sights. Archaeology is also part of the village's history. Part of a Neolithic settlement of the culture with Moravian Painted Ware was identified in the “Přední hony” field near Bezměrov. For visitors interested in culture, this discovery supplements the written record with a considerably older stage of settlement. In the centre of the village stands the Bezměrov bell tower, which was reconstructed in 2017. It houses the St. John bell from 1919. The cultural centre hosts public and private social events, making it another part of local life.
