Těmice – Church, Nature Reserve and Cycle Route

Těmice between church history, protected nature and a cycle route

Těmice brings together several distinct reasons to get to know the town more closely: a historically documented church, a nature reserve with highly endangered plant and animal species, an existing local cycle route, and events in which local traditions and activities for children become visible. For your travel planning, this makes it a destination that combines culture, nature observation, physical activity and community celebrations in different forms.

The Church of St. John the Evangelist

The Church of St. John the Evangelist in Těmice has a particularly long history. It has been mentioned in historical sources since 1359. The listed building is essentially a Gothic single-nave church with a prismatic tower. Later alterations add to its appearance; the complex also includes a rectangular presbytery and a rectangular sacristy. Anyone interested in regional architectural history and church traditions will find concrete historical points of reference here rather than merely a generally described attraction.

Mass currently takes place regularly in the church on Saturdays and is valid for Sunday.

Rybníček u Starých Hutí and its biodiversity

The natural character of Těmice includes the Rybníček u Starých Hutí Nature Reserve. It is located in the Pelhřimov District in the municipality of Těmice, in the cadastral area of Těmice u Kamenice nad Lipou. The protected area preserves surviving natural communities with populations of highly endangered plant and animal species. The species found there include round-leaved sundew (Drosera rotundifolia), whorled loosestrife (Naumburgia thyrsifolia), Eurasian minnows (Phoxinus phoxinus) and amphibians (Amphibia spp.). For travellers interested in nature, this specific combination of area, protection status and biodiversity is particularly noteworthy.

By bicycle between three towns

Those who would like to place Těmice within a regional cycling route can follow the existing local Cycle Route 321. It runs from Kamenice nad Lipou via Těmice to Kámen. The route connects Těmice with Kamenice nad Lipou and Kámen.

Masopust and announced family events

The events calendar also shows different sides of local life. On 1 March 2025, a Masopust event advertised as traditional and revived was held in Těmice. The masked participants gathered at the cultural centre, after which the procession moved through the town before a social gathering took place at the cultural centre in the evening. The event was suitable for children and thus combines traditional customs with an explicitly intergenerational format.

For 22 August 2026, a celebration marking the end of the school holidays was announced behind the outdoor swimming pool in Těmice. It was intended as a family and children's event. The announced programme included children's activities, bouncy castles, foam and refreshments. As this was an announcement for a specific date, it should be understood as time-specific event information, not as a permanent offering.
