Hodejovice between Hiking Trails and Mill History
Hodejovice between Hiking Trails and Mill History
Hodejovice combines village history with paths through the landscape around the Hejlovka. The village square is home to the Hodějovice Chapel, which is dedicated to the Virgin Mary. This makes it a cultural focal point in the heart of the village. There are also several routes connecting Hodejovice with Pelhřimov, historic mills, and viewpoints in the surrounding area. This makes it possible to combine a visit to the village, a longer route, and individual detours during a stay.
Paths through the Landscape
The 13.5 km walking route “In the Footsteps of Old Water Mills” leads from Pelhřimov via Peklo and Hodějovice onward toward Krasíkovice and Radětín. In sections, the route runs close to the Hejlovka. Those looking for a longer route through several village and landscape sections will find a connection here that extends beyond the individual village. The sequence from Pelhřimov via Peklo toward Krasíkovice and Radětín gives the walk a clearly recognizable geographical line.
The same walking route offers a short detour to the Hodějovický Mill. The “Around the Water Mills” cycling route also includes a 500 m detour from Hodějovice to this mill. This makes it possible to explore the mill theme in two ways: on foot as a short side path of a longer walking route, or by bicycle via an explicitly 500 m-long connection. The two routes therefore place different emphasis on the mode of travel.
The Chapel and Mill as Distinct Places to Discover
The Hodějovický Mill lies below Hodějovice in the valley of the Hejlovka stream. The original mill was already standing there in the first half of the 18th century. Together with the chapel on the village square, this creates two distinct destinations in terms of both location and character: in the village stands the chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary, while below Hodějovice, the historically rooted mill lies in the valley. This contrast connects the history of the village with the landscape along the Hejlovka.
Circular Routes with Different Views
The “Pelhřimov Ring” route reaches the road to Hodějovice; shortly before the entrance to the village, there is a tourist rest area. In the surroundings of Hodějovice, this route also offers views toward Křemešník. Its course thus combines orientation at the village entrance with a landscape view extending beyond the immediate surroundings.
The “Želiv Circuit” circular route leads over Vávrův kopec above Hodějovice. From Těchorázek Farm, the circular route offers a view across the Hejlovka valley toward Hodějovice. Together with the view toward Křemešník, this creates a different experience from the longer connection from Pelhřimov via Peklo: here, the focus is on the circular route, the elevated terrain, and the view of Hodějovice. The options therefore range from a longer route and a short detour to a mill to paths with viewpoints.
