Bohuňov: Natural Areas, Trails and Village History
Accommodation in Bohuňov
Between Natural Areas and Village History
Bohuňov brings together protected landscapes, marked trails, and remarkable examples of regional architecture and folk culture within a small area. The boundary of the Svratecká hornatina Nature Park runs through the cadastral area. In addition, the southeastern tip of the Žďárské vrchy Protected Landscape Area lies approximately 0.5 km from the northwestern to southwestern edge of the cadastral area. This area is bounded by the Lísek–Skalský dvůr road and its intersection with road I/19. Choosing accommodation in Bohuňov is interesting if you would like to combine experiences in nature with short cultural discoveries.
Historical Details in the Village
One particularly specific point of interest is the Chapel of Saints Cyril and Methodius. It was converted from a bell tower in 1929 and consecrated on July 5, 1929. Opposite it stands a stone cross dated 1859. Behind Bohuňov, a field path leads to the Boží muka wayside shrine; according to the inscription on its stone plaque, it was created in 1739. The three-sided masonry farmstead No. 17 is also one of the village's characteristic landmarks. It is a preserved example of Horácko folk architecture and bears an inscription from 1857 on its gable.
Hiking with Different Stages
A yellow hiking trail marking runs through Bohuňov approximately in a north–south direction. Another green marking leads from the Pletenice forest along a field path following the cadastral boundary between Janovičky and Písečné. This makes it possible to experience walks and longer routes through different landscape sections without having to commit to a single route.
One clearly described circular route is “K Lučnímu baru u dráčka Poplety.” It leads from Hotel Skalský dvůr through Bohuňov to Pletenice hill near Lísek. Below the hill is a self-service Luční Bar at Dráček Poplety. The associated excursion is 7 km long, takes approximately 2 hours, and is suitable for preschool children.
Water, Animals and Winter Landscapes
Domanínský rybník is located south of Bohuňov. The pond is used for swimming and fishing and is approximately 1.5 km from Bohuňov via field paths. White storks also regularly nest in Bohuňov. These two details represent two different ways of experiencing the area: by the water and on paths through the landscape. When snow conditions are good, a groomed cross-country skiing route can also be used from neighboring Domanín via Skalský rybník and past Hotel Skalský dvůr to Zuberský rybník. It continues into the central part of the Žďárské vrchy.
Getting There and Longer Excursions
For rail travel, you can use Rozsochy railway station, located 3.5 km from Bohuňov. Bohuňov also has bus connections, including a direct bus route to Brno. If you would like to focus your stay more on cycling, the 137 km “EUROVELO 4 + PRAGUE ROUTE” cycle route passes through Bohuňov before reaching Bystřice.
The Bohuňovská traktoriáda is a traditional recurring event; the edition in question was the 12th edition.
