Blízkov is a destination for travellers who want to combine a hike with landscapes, local history and cultural discoveries. A yellow hiking trail leads from Blízkov to Dědkovská hora. This means that one of the area’s most important nature experiences begins directly at the connection between the village and the mountain ridge: you can combine a mountain excursion with views, a prominent cross and regional tradition.

Dědkovská hora: Summit, Views and Tradition

Dědkovská hora is a 694-metre-high summit of the Arnolecké hory. The unforested eastern slope of the summit offers views of the Meziříčská kotlina. Dědkovská hora is suitable for a classic hiking excursion at any time. There is also an 8-metre-high cross from 1984 at the summit.

Dědkovská hora is also associated with religious traditions: Christian harvest pilgrimages take place on the mountain. For planning your excursion, this creates a special contrast between movement through the landscape and an established communal occasion. Those who do not want to hike exclusively will find an additional way of engaging with the regional culture in this combination.

Cycling Routes and Orientation When Arriving

Several cycling routes pass through the districts of Blízkov and Dědkov. Cycling can therefore be planned as a separate way of exploring the area, while the yellow hiking trail to Dědkovská hora provides a clearly defined hiking focus. The two means of transport do not represent the same route, but rather different ways of getting to know the districts and their surroundings.

Two specific reference points are also documented for choosing accommodation. Exit 134 of the D1 motorway is no more than 3 kilometres from Blízkov. In addition, the village is regularly served by public transport as part of the Veřejná doprava Vysočiny system. If, when looking for a hotel or other accommodation, you want to take both an excursion into the landscape and a clear transport connection into account, Blízkov offers these two different points of reference.

Local History from the Middle Ages to the Baroque Period

Blízkov was first mentioned in writing in 1298. It is believed that the village may have originated during the great medieval colonisation in the 13th century. The two details should be distinguished: the year 1298 refers to the first written mention, while its origin as part of the colonisation remains a conjecture.

Among the visible cultural landmarks is the Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk in Blízkov, a Baroque chapel dating from 1762. The former Mirhart ski jump provides a different historical focal point. It was built in 1946–1947 as a 22.5-metre-high, five-storey wooden structure. An information board behind Blízkov commemorates this former ski jump.

Blízkov therefore combines a clearly described hiking trail, a 694-metre-high summit with views, several cycling routes and various historical points of reference. Depending on your focus, you can make the nature route to Dědkovská hora, the cycling routes through Blízkov and Dědkov, or the local history with its chapel and information board the centrepiece of your stay.
