Tasov combines traces of cultural history with a landscape that can be explored by bicycle and on excursions. The town is home to the parish church of St Peter and Paul, the Vysočina Literary Memorial and the Hrádek ruins, each representing a different chapter in the town’s history. The nearby area also includes the picturesque, rocky Oslava Valley and erratic boulders. Tasov therefore offers several points of interest for a stay combining literature, architectural history and the landscape.

Architectural history and literary traces in Tasov

The parish church of St Peter and Paul was rebuilt in the Baroque style between 1728 and 1730 from a Gothic presbytery and nave, and extended with a Baroque tower. Its history, however, goes further back: a large part of the masonry of the early Gothic Church of St Peter has been preserved in the walls of the present parish house, built in 1730. Next to the church, the old cemetery contains the grave of the writer Jakub Deml.

The Vysočina Literary Memorial is also associated with Jakub Deml. It is housed in the former civic school building in Tasov. There, the institution displays some of Jakub Deml’s original furniture, designed by the architect Bohuslav Fuchs; the library also contains documents and books by Jakub Deml. A viewing appointment for the Vysočina Literary Memorial can be arranged with Mrs Tereza Axmanová. The former villa of Jakub Deml was designed in 1921 by the Brno architect Bohuslav Fuchs. This makes it possible to connect the town’s literary history with concrete objects, documents and buildings without reducing Tasov to a single attraction.

Another historical site is the Hrádek ruins in Tasov. They preserve the remains of a circular wall and a gate belonging to a Gothic fortress dating from around 1390. Visitors interested in older fortifications will therefore find a different point of interest alongside the Baroque church and the places associated with Jakub Deml.

The Oslava Valley and the Mlynářská Cycling Route

The landscape around Tasov also offers its own way of discovering the town. The signposted Mlynářská cycling route no. 5109 runs through the Oslava Valley to Tasov. Its course thus connects the Oslava valley area with Tasov. The area around Tasov also includes the picturesque, rocky Oslava Valley and erratic boulders. The rocky valley and the boulders give the surrounding landscape a distinctive character. In the immediate vicinity of Tasov, a detour from Panský mlýn leads to the ruins of Dub Castle. Those who do not want to plan their stay exclusively around cultural history will therefore find a specific cycling route and another historical excursion destination in the surrounding area.

If you would like to compare Tasov with other places, you can also discover Sklené, Dolní Libochová, Kotlasy, Jabloňov, Krásné, Otín, Věžná and Jámy afterwards.
