Meziříčko combines a landscape between two streams with a surprising number of traces of local history. Below the settlement, the two watercourses merge to form the Lysá stream. In the town center, the pond dam draws attention to several memorial sites and makes the place an interesting destination for travelers who want to combine nature observation with history.

Several eras meet at the pond dam

Next to the bridge on the pond dam stands a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk. The year 1562 is carved into it. The year is thus visibly part of the statue's design, without that alone justifying any further dating of the entire place. Near this statue stands a memorial to those who fell in the First World War. It commemorates 17 soldiers of the former Austrian army. Those who visit Meziříčko can therefore perceive different historical references at this site: a religious depiction, a date inscription, and a 20th-century memorial.

The local bell also bears its own trace of time. It dates from 1730. Together with the statue and the war memorial, it forms a townscape in which individual details invite conscious discovery. For families, this can provide a good basis for conversation: children and adults can look for dates, discuss the purpose of a memorial, and become acquainted with the character of the town center.

Chapel, bell, and the older history of Meziříčko

The history of the place reaches further back. Meziříčko is already mentioned as a settlement in the 15th century. A later turning point came in 1785: at that time, the former Jesuit farmstead became a new district called Familianti. This historical development complements the visible individual monuments with a longer local history that can be understood through several chronological layers.

The more recent history includes the Chapel of St. John of Nepomuk. The foundation stone for the chapel was blessed on February 5, 1994, by Prague Bishop František Lobkowicz. The date adds to the visible indications of the more recent local history. Together with the statue of Saint John of Nepomuk, it creates a thematic connection that you can take into account when exploring Meziříčko. The chapel, bell, and monuments each represent different moments in the development of the place.

Active Excursion to RS Meziříčko

Meziříčko can be discovered not only through its history but also through an outdoor activity. Rafting is offered at RS Meziříčko as part of its outdoor programs. If you are looking for a more active focus for your trip, this activity is a separate consideration when planning your day and accommodation. RS Meziříčko can be reached from the Meziříčko – rozcestí bus stop via a walk of approximately 1.5 km. You should take this approximate distance into account when planning, especially if you would like to combine a visit to RS with other destinations in the town.

Meziříčko therefore offers various options for a stay: you can focus on the historic town center and its monuments, take in the landscape between the streams, or plan an outdoor activity. When looking for accommodation, it is helpful to first determine your preferred focus. For a culture-focused stay, the local history, statue, bell, and chapel are the main attractions; for a more active excursion, RS Meziříčko is an important point of reference. Both perspectives can be considered separately when planning your trip, without assuming distances or a shared route.
