Nová Chribská – Folk Architecture, Landscape and Cycling Route

Nová Chřibská combines North Bohemian architectural heritage with a varied landscape. Numerous buildings of North Bohemian folk architecture, largely preserved development and the transition between tree vegetation, meadows and pastures give the place a clearly recognizable character. In addition, there is a monument with a reconstructed park, a section of the regional CT 211 (Šluknovská) cycling route and a location within the Lužické hory Protected Landscape Area. Folk Architecture and an Evolved Village Character

Nová Chřibská is home to numerous buildings of North Bohemian folk architecture. These include log houses with the characteristic element known as a podstávka. Together with the largely preserved character of the development, these houses shape the villagescape and make the architectural tradition an attraction in its own right. For you, this means that the special character of the place lies not only in a single historic monument, but in the combination of several preserved buildings and historical traces.

Between Landscape Areas and Water

The Nová Chřibská Landscape Character Area forms the transition between the Krásnolipsko-Podluží and Kytlicko-Chřibsko Landscape Character Areas. At the same time, the area is characterized by a highly varied topography. The built-up area transitions into areas with tree vegetation as well as meadows and pastures. Watercourses and small bodies of water with accompanying vegetation complement this landscape impression. Nová Chřibská is also located within the Lužické hory Protected Landscape Area, where Protection Zone III predominates.

Velký rybník also represents the water-shaped landscape aspects of the surroundings: there you will find a body of water with adjoining reed beds, moist, marshy and wet meadows, moist alder stands and willow thickets. At the same time, Velký rybník is an important migration route for birds. Anyone wishing to take nature observation and different landscape forms into account when planning a trip will find another specific focus here.

Monument, Park and Local History

A monument in Nová Chřibská commemorates 21 citizens who fell on the battlefields of the First World War. It was restored in 2014. The park belonging to the monument was reconstructed in 2015; the stone walls were renewed, hand-hewn stone posts were made and installed, garden furniture was purchased and the park landscaping was completed. The monument is located approximately 200 m below the railway crossing. If you travel from Chřibská to Rybniště, it is on the left opposite the bus stop.

Another historical trace leads back to 1890: At that time, a large steam sawmill was founded in Nová Chřibská, owned by Rudolf Zimmer. Details such as these complement the visible folk architecture with the economic and local history.

Cycling Route and Orientation

Road II/263 forms the transport axis of Nová Chřibská. For active excursions, the regional CT 211 (Šluknovská) cycling route is relevant; near Nová Chřibská, it includes Section 12. In the context of the host municipality of Rybniště, there are also important regional cycling routes connected to cycling routes in Bohemian Saxon Switzerland.
