Nové Hraběcí brings together marked trails, viewpoints and traces of a rich local history. This gives you two practical ways to plan your trip: routes with information about their length and difficulty, and historic sites whose history dates back to the 18th century. If you are looking for accommodation for your stay, these interests can help you decide which experiences will shape your visit.

Hiking Trails, Views and Cycling

The 25-kilometre Velký vyhlídkový okruh (Great Viewpoint Circuit) of the town of Šluknov counts Nové Hraběcí among its four main viewpoints. The Šluknovské stezky (Šluknov Trails) network around Šluknov also includes the area and is intended primarily for hiking. Most routes can also be ridden by mountain bike; however, this does not apply universally to every individual route.

For a specific assessment, the trail description rates the section between Šluknov zastávka railway station and Nové Hraběcí as moderate. The 25 kilometres refers to the Velký vyhlídkový okruh, while the difficulty rating applies to this section. This lets you distinguish the two points of reference when planning a route, without treating them as descriptions of the same trail.

Nearby, the Židovský vrch viewpoint offers a direct view of Šluknov’s built-up area and its conservation area. The viewpoint can be reached via road III/2667 between Šluknov and Nové Hraběcí. Židovský vrch, which extends as far as Šluknov, is named after the Jewish cemetery in Šluknov. The view of the town is therefore connected with a name that points to its local history.

There is also a specific route to follow for cyclists: marked cycle route 3043 passes through Nové Hraběcí. A memorial to the victims of the world wars stands on the road from Šluknov to Nové Hraběcí, as well as on the green-marked hiking route and cycle route 3043. The area can thus be explored along different routes and through places of remembrance, without treating hiking and cycling routes as interchangeable.

Local History and Historic Landmarks

The historic German name of Nové Hraběcí was Neu Grafenwalde. The addition “Nové” distinguishes the settlement from Staré Hraběcí. An important turning point came in 1730, when the Císařský estate was dissolved: the farm buildings in Nové Hraběcí were sold off in parcels and converted into residential houses. The area’s development is therefore closely connected with the conversion of these buildings.

In 1736, many farmers moved from Křečany to Hraběcí because they were burdened by obligations related to the construction of the local church. As a result, the community grew quickly. Alongside the earlier changes to the estate buildings, this influx marked another stage in the area’s development: new residents arrived and the community grew.

The 1867 Chapel of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary stands in the cadastral area of Nové Hraběcí. Its year of construction provides a specific point of reference in relation to the historical changes of the 18th century. Those interested in local history will find here a named building from the 19th century, alongside the earlier events.

The Zeckelův kříž (Zeckel Cross) stands on a ridge along a path on the green-marked route from Šluknov zastávka railway station to Nové Hraběcí. It was erected by Josef Reintsch on the path connecting Císařský railway station with Nové Hraběcí. The cross probably dates from the second half of the 19th century. This dating is uncertain; at the same time, its recorded connections with these paths link this historic memorial site to today’s hiking routes.
