Růžová: Nature, Trails and Bohemian History

Růžová is located in the immediate vicinity of Bohemian Switzerland National Park and combines protected landscapes with visible local history. Here you will find opportunities for walks, excursions to viewpoints and tours through deep gorges in the surrounding area and beyond. The town also offers concrete points of interest for stays with different interests: educational trails lead through nature and history, while the open-air museum, church and observation tower each add their own distinctive character.

Educational Trails Between Nature and History

The 9.9-kilometre circular trail “Naučná stezka Růžová” begins in Růžová and runs through Bohemian Switzerland National Park and the Labské pískovce Protected Landscape Area. Ten stations introduce visitors to natural attractions and the history of the landscape. A significantly shorter route is the approximately 500-metre-long “Petřínská stezka” educational trail. It primarily provides information about the local fauna and has interactive educational stations. A Dutch-type windmill also stands at the summit of Petřín.

The approximately 1.4-kilometre section of the “Pastevní” educational trail combines historical and scenic impressions. It passes historic structures associated with the activities of the local population, as well as a Madonna, a chapel and a bell tower. Růžovský vrch reaches 619 metres. As a nature reserve, it preserves original deciduous forest and thermophilic flora.

Church, Observation Tower and Open-Air Museum

The Baroque Church of St Peter and Paul is a landmark of Růžová. It was built on the site of an older church between 1710 and 1712. After the fire on 1 August 1988, it was restored between 1996 and 2000, including the staircase and boundary walls, and was solemnly reconsecrated on 7 October 2000. The Růženka observation tower is 6.5 metres high and offers a panoramic view.

Rosehill is an open-air museum in the municipality of Růžová in the Labské pískovce Protected Landscape Area. Hands-on activities include archery, spear and tomahawk throwing, making simple Native American objects, drumming, making fire by striking sparks and Native American games for children. The museum thus complements the quieter nature and cultural stops with practical discoveries.

Shorter Routes and a Cycle Route

The approximately 1.6-kilometre “Ovocná stezka” connects Růžová with the settlement of Růžová–Nový Svět. Along the route are pear and apple trees of old varieties as well as berry bushes; three small ponds near the path increase biodiversity. The route also serves as a cycle route. The approximately 2.1-kilometre circular walk “Kovářova stezka” leads around Kovářův kopec and provides information about the revitalisation of the Janovský potok stream with a dry-valley retention basin. Benches, seating and a cycle-route signpost are among its facilities.
