Discover Prackovice nad Labem: the Elbe, culture and hiking trails

Prackovice nad Labem lies on the left bank of the Elbe on the southern slope of Debus. The municipality combines a river landscape, hilly terrain, historic landmarks and signposted trails to create a varied destination for those who want to combine nature and culture in one stay. The Děčín–Prague railway line runs between the municipality and the Elbe.

The Elbe, hills and the landscape of Porta Bohemica

The municipality extends from the Elbe riverbank into hilly terrain towards basalt hills and extensive pastures. The area’s valuable natural landscape includes wooded peaks, including the Elbe breakthrough valley – Porta Bohemica or Litochovické skály –, as well as Kubačka, Debus and Výsluní. It also includes preserved fragments of natural forest and contiguous open areas with rocky slopes.

Churches, chapels and historic traces

The Church of St Matthew in Prackovice is first mentioned in 1352; it was probably originally Gothic. Its present appearance was created by a reconstruction in the Empire style around 1800. Particularly striking is the tall tower on the west façade: the church is a prominent landmark in the wider area and is especially distinctive in distant views from the southeast, south and west.

Small crosses and wayside shrines stand in the municipality’s fields. The Litochovice district is also home to a ruined plague column dating from the 17th century. The Chapel of St John of Nepomuk also stands in Litochovice nad Labem; it is a Baroque, rectangular rendered building with a rounded end. Its façade features a striking volute gable with rich stucco decoration.

Signposted trails for different day plans

From the railway station in Litochovice nad Labem, a green-marked hiking trail leads over the rocky slope of Porta Bohemica to Malé Žernoseky. A yellow-marked hiking trail runs from the same station via roads and local paths to Dobkovičky. The two routes described offer different options for planning your day, without requiring you to combine the trails into one route.

The ČD stop in Prackovice is about a five-minute walk from the municipal office and the town centre. When planning your visit, you can therefore also explore the area via the railway station, the centre and the surrounding landscape.

Elbe experiences and regional tradition

Many sightseeing boats travel through the municipality. At the end of August, the traditional fishing competition “Rybářské závody – Memoriál Václava Jakubíčka” takes place in a meadow on the Elbe in Litochovice nad Labem. Prackovice and Litochovice were also historically known for their extensive vineyards and fruit growing.
