Brody Between Castle History and Landscape

Brody combines a Baroque castle complex with historical traces in the village and the extensive landscape around Krásný Dvůr. The grounds of the Baroque castle lie north of the village. They were built on the site of a 16th-century fortress and reveal the development of the village across several historical periods. The archaeological area of the castle grounds is classified as ÚAN I and covers the period from the Middle Ages to the modern era.

The year 1403 is an important reference point in the history of the village: Brody was first mentioned in writing at that time, as part of Buškovice. After 1552, Jan Fremut the Younger built a Renaissance fortress in Brody. It later developed into the Baroque castle complex. The historical dimension can also be seen in smaller details. Near the centre of the village, at an intersection by a chapel, stands a column bearing a statue of Saint Barbara. Brody's Baroque castle also has a chapel dedicated to Saint Barbara.

Krásný Dvůr Park

The Zámecký park Krásný Dvůr offers a distinctive landscape experience. It lies on the slope above the Leskovský potok stream between the castle and Brody and is registered as an important landscape feature. In terms of area, the park is one of the largest English-style parks in Bohemia. Its character is defined by romantic landscape structures, which shape the park not only as a green space but also as a designed cultural landscape.

The Zámecký park Krásný Dvůr can be visited independently and without a guide all year round; admission is free. This makes it possible to explore the park independently of a guided tour. The Krásný Dvůr area is also an important entomological site and a refuge for the hermit beetle (Osmoderma eremita). Nature and landscape history therefore stand directly alongside each other here, without the park having to be reduced to a single attraction.
