Patokryje: Fortress, Cycling Route and Landscape

Patokryje is a destination for you if you would like to combine local history, landscape and a specific cycling route. The fortress is particularly striking: it stands on a gentle rise above the pond in the northwestern built-up part of the municipality and features a regular rectangular floor plan, several storeys and small towers at the corners. Fortress and Local History

The fortress was first mentioned in 1397. This year places it firmly in the local history. Another historical landmark is the Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk. The municipality built it with the support of the estate owners, the Lobkowicz family of Bílina; it was completed in 1741. The sacred building thus forms a second historical focal point alongside the fortress.

The stone atonement cross with the identification number 0350 is also part of the local history. It is listed among the cultural monuments and stands in the foundation of the fence surrounding the U Křížku inn. The engraved motif may depict a chalice with a host or a face. The two possible interpretations preserve an open reading of the cross.

Landscape and Cycling Route

Geographically, Patokryje lies between the right bank of the Srpina stream and Zlatník Hill, at the beginning of the České středohoří Protected Landscape Area, at an elevation of 221 metres. This creates a clear transition between water, high ground and protected landscape. The stream, the hill and the protected area provide the locality with three distinct landscape reference points. For active days, the Most – Rudolice nad Bílinou – Patokryje – Korozluky – Zaječice – Polerady – Lišnice – Most cycling route is interesting: it passes through Patokryje and is suitable for parents with children. The route connects the locality with several other stops and eventually returns to Most. This makes it possible to experience Patokryje as part of a continuous route, not merely as an individual destination.

Events and Local Impressions

Patokryjská vlna is a recurring summer event; for 2026, its 16th edition was announced. In addition, citizens and visitors were invited in Patokryje to the traditional burning of the witches, “Pálení čarodějnic,” in 2026. Patokryjská vlna is therefore part of the locality’s summer event tradition, while Pálení čarodějnic revives a traditional custom.

In the centre of the municipality, a restaurant is located on the upper floor of the municipal building, house number 138. Another local feature is “Nová voda Patokryje,” a designated non-trout fishing area. Alongside the historical topics, food and fishing thus emerge as distinct local interests.

Transport Connections

The road connection also helps with the geographical orientation: a third-class road runs through Patokryje and begins at the nearby I/13 expressway. This connects Most with Teplice and Ústí nad Labem; the road ends in Lužice.
