Háj u Duchcova between the Ore Mountains and local history

Háj u Duchcova, together with the settlement of Domaslavice, lies at the foot of the Ore Mountains. The town therefore combines a landscape on the edge of the mountains with a history dating back to the Middle Ages: Háj is first mentioned in 1203 in the founding charter of Osek Monastery. In Kubátova Street, a monument to the victims of the Second World War commemorates an important chapter of the 20th century. Another prominent landmark of the municipality is the Chapel of St Leonard (sv. Linharta). Local farmer Josef Beck had it built in 1843 in the Neoclassical style. The chapel was reconstructed in 2007; it is the only surviving religious monument in the municipality of Háj u Duchcova. Its location on the field road between Háj u Duchcova and Osek adds a connection to the surrounding area to the historical perspective.

The chapel's architectural form also deserves attention: it is a small structure with a semicircular floor plan and a shingle-covered roof. The Karl Marx monument is also the only listed cultural monument in the municipality of Háj u Duchcova.
