Landscape around Chotiměř

The nearby Oparenské Valley is approximately 6 km long and stretches from Velemín to Malé Žernoseky. The Milešovský Stream flows through the valley. Wet meadows and metamorphic as well as igneous rocks exposed by erosion characterize the traditional description of this landscape. In Chotiměř itself, the Chotiměřský Stream flows through the village, joins the Milešovský Stream and then flows into the Elbe.

From Chotiměř, there are views of the surrounding peaks of Kletečná, Kubačka, Lovoš and Milešovka. The village is surrounded by orchards, agricultural land and nearby forests. In this way, open areas and wooded sections meet the distinctive elevations of the surrounding landscape.

Chapels, Castle and Local History

Chotiměř’s cultural heritage includes the Baroque Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk, dating from the late 18th century. Another chapel on Opuce stands along the road from Chotiměř to Velemín and has been restored to its original form. It was probably built around the middle of the 19th century using an older stone cross that had been erected there in 1759.

Above the Oparenské Valley stand the ruins of Oparno Castle, dating from the 13th century. The restored Oparenský Mill is also known as Konradsmühle and Deutschmühle and serves as an environmental education centre. The mill connects its various names with a present-day educational purpose, adding another chronological layer to the medieval building history. Local tradition also includes two festivals that inspired the current municipal flag and coat of arms.

Railway Line and Village Traditions

The Lovosice–Teplice railway line runs near Chotiměř; the walk to the station takes less than ten minutes. The Oparenský Express currently operates on part of this railway line in Bohemia, which is over 120 years old, as far as Chotiměř. Another special event is the Chotiměřský Masopust, which took place for the seventh time in 2026, featuring a procession through the village.

The T-Mobile Olympic Run, held repeatedly in Chotiměř, also passes through the Oparenské Valley. The routes were designed for children and adults. Thus, in addition to historic sites and landscape details, the village is also explicitly characterized by different types of events.
