Discover Brzánky: Cultural Monuments and Cycling Route

Brzánky is a place where you can experience historic architecture, a landscape of European importance, and a documented cycling route all in one. Four immovable cultural monuments – the rural farmsteads at house numbers 10, 18, 21, and 2 – provide tangible points of reference for the village’s history. In addition, there is the Site of European Importance Sovice u Brzánek. This gives you a choice for planning your trip between cultural exploration, landscape, and an active route.

Historic Farmsteads in the Villagescape

The farmsteads along the road to Vetlá are particularly illustrative. The farmstead at house number 21 stands in the western part of Brzánky, on the north side of this road. Its house is a Neoclassical building of vernacular architecture dating from after 1800 and before 1843. Also in the western part is the farmstead at house number 18, on the south side of the road to Vetlá. Its residential building is a two-storey structure from the first half of the 19th century; the eastern façade opens onto a two-storey arcaded gallery.

The farmstead at house number 10 also features several independent structures: it comprises a residential building, a granary with an attached barn, and a shed. The protected granary is a small, two-storey vernacular building from the early 19th century. The farmstead at house number 22 is a vernacular building with an L-shaped floor plan and a converted attic. These different forms of construction make Brzánky interesting if, during a visit to the village, you prefer to focus on details rather than major sights.

Landscape with Special Protection Status

The Site of European Importance Sovice u Brzánek was designated to protect semi-natural dry grasslands and scrub formations on calcareous soil. The protection status therefore identifies a specific landscape type: dry grasslands and woody vegetation structures on calcareous soil. If, in addition to the farmsteads, you would like to understand the natural character of the surroundings, this site adds a landscape perspective to the village’s cultural and historical themes.

Brzánky on the Elbe Trail

Variant 2A of the Elbe Trail, also known as EuroVelo 7, passes through Brzánky on its route from Roudnice nad Labem to Štětí. The Roudnice nad Labem–Štětí section is particularly suitable for mountain bikes or trekking bikes. When choosing accommodation, you can therefore view Brzánky as a place along a journey on this documented cycling route and decide whether to focus your stay on architecture or cycling.

Virtual Preparation and Further Orientation

The official Brzánky municipal website offers a virtual tour. This allows you to get to know the village digitally before your trip and then decide more specifically which historical and landscape topics you would like to explore further on site.

For your further search, you can also view Vražkov, Křešice, Horní Řepčice, Libotenice, Kyškovice, Libochovany, Hrobce and Chotiněves.
