Chraberce: History, Oblík and Landscape

Chraberce combines its traditional local history with a distinctive landscape around Oblík. Baroque Chapel and Traces of Local History

The village is home to a small Baroque chapel dedicated to Saint George, with a tent roof and a small turret at the top. Inside the chapel is a Baroque painting of Saint Wenceslas, restored in 1873 by V. Šváb. Below the chapel stands an empty pedestal of the statue of Saint Bernard dating from 1736. It is decorated with a relief of Saint George. A Baroque statue of the Virgin Mary from 1726 is also documented in Chraberce.

The history of the village goes back a long way. It is recorded that in 1100, Nemoj of the Vršovci family donated Chraberce to the church on Vyšehrad. Later, the Vyšehrad chapter community owned Chraberce until the Hussite Wars. In 1544, the town of Louny bought Chraberce from the Vřesovci family. The museum in Louny preserves another historical connection: part of the archaeological finds from south of Chraberce is kept there.

Oblík in the Landscape

In the vicinity of Chraberce, Oblík rises opposite the village in the landscape panorama around Louny. The 509-metre-high basalt hill is characterized by steppe vegetation and forms a distinctive landscape feature. Chraberce lies within the České středohoří Landscape Protection Area. The basalt hill Oblík also protects the geobiocenosis of the Lounské středohoří, that is, the natural community of this landscape area.

Oblík is also a clear point of reference for orientation during an active stay. A longer hike to Oblík can begin in the vicinity of Chraberce; the green-marked hiking trail runs from Louny to Mnichov. For cyclists, cycle route No. 232 connects Louny and Chraberce. Bus route 562702 operates on the Chlumčany, Vlčí–Louny–Libčeves route. Hop-Growing Tradition and Further Orientation

Hop growing is also part of the local history. In 1930, hops were grown on 8 hectares in Chraberce, documenting a historical hop-growing tradition in the village. Together with the chapel, the archaeological finds, and the landscape around Oblík, this creates a destination where cultural discoveries and natural features stand closely side by side.
