Slavětín: Discover Culture and Landscapes

Slavětín combines sacred architecture, literary heritage, traditional events and a varied landscape. Church and Chapel as Historical Highlights

The protected complex of the Church of Saint James the Elder comprises not only the church itself, but also the former cemetery, the enclosing wall with two gates, the staircase in front of the church and a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk. The church itself is an Early Gothic building with a long, polygonally terminated presbytery and a hall-style, three-nave main body. The presbytery contains paintings depicting scenes from the lives of saints. Choral concerts are also traditionally held in the church.

A second distinctive sacred building is the Chapel of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary. It was completed in 1677 and built as an octagonal central structure. It stands above Slavětín at a location offering a wide view over the landscape. Inside, inscriptions and fragments bearing coats of arms from 1683 and 1747 have been preserved; they are considered the last surviving remnant of the once-rich interior decoration.

Nature Trail through Fields, Meadows and Forests

The Naučná stezka offers a clearly structured way to explore the landscape on foot. The nature trail comprises nine stations and a separate information board in the settlement of Kystra. Its approximately 7.5 km route runs between Slavětín and Peruc through fields, meadows and forests. Anyone wishing to combine an experience of nature with orientation can include the route as an independent excursion in their stay planning.

Literary Exhibition with a Special Access Arrangement

The Konstantin Biebl Exhibition opened in 1955 and reopened in 1979 after the building was reconstructed. The exhibition in the so-called birthplace commemorates the poet Konstantin Biebl, his uncle, the poet Arnošt Ráž (1884–1925), and Biebl’s friend, the prose writer Karel Konrád (1899–1971). The special access arrangement is important for planning: the exhibition is accessible only after a prior request to the local municipal office.

Traditions Throughout the Year

The events calendar runs from spring through summer. Harvest celebrations are held every year at Rodinná farma Suchý. In spring, the local calendar includes a traditional carnival in Slavětín and the Předjaří v Poohří hiking event. In summer, you can take part in the Memoriál Stanislava Kučery fire sport competition; the Slavětínská pouť pilgrimage festival and a football tournament are also held. Depending on when you travel, these dates add an extra cultural or community focus to your stay.

In the fields behind Slavětín, a stone known as Baba with a metal cross stands at a crossroads. As a small, specifically located point of remembrance and orientation, it complements the larger buildings and thematic trails with another destination in the surrounding area.
