Discover Vracov

Vracov combines the Moravian wine landscape, lively customs and unusual small excursion destinations. The Moravian Wine Trail runs through the town. Today, 25 wine cellars can be visited in the Baráky district; one of the two small squares is home to a large wine press dating from 1840. This gives Vracov different starting points for your trip: You can explore wine and local history, experience the landscape between fields and vineyards, or choose family-friendly destinations such as a garden railway and an outdoor swimming pool.

Wine trails, cellars and views

A particularly vivid impression of the landscape can be gained at the Na jamech cellar lane. The climb through the cellar lane leads behind Vracov into an area between fields and vineyards. On Zabiják Hill, north of and above the town, the statue of Saint Urban stands amid the vineyards. The wooden pavilion beside it offers a place to rest and a beautiful view of Vracov.

Another prominent spot lies in Dúbrava Forest: The statue of Saint Hubert has stood there since 2003 at a crossroads by a large linden tree. It depicts a deer and a hunting dog; there is a pavilion nearby for resting. The two statues therefore differ clearly in their surroundings: Saint Urban is associated with the vineyard hill and the view of the town, while Saint Hubert is associated with Dúbrava Forest.

Customs and historic townscapes

The Vracovské hody with věncem a kačerem takes place in Vracov every year on the third weekend of October. Traditionally, around 500 people in traditional dress take part. The harvest festival Dožínky is also regularly held in Vracov at the end of August. Vracov's traditional costume also has a historical background: It originated at the end of the 17th century. Those who visit the town at different times of year will therefore find different cultural highlights, without Vracov being reduced to a single event.

Baráky Street is part of the town's older structure. It is one of the oldest districts of Vracov; its origins are dated to the 16th to 17th centuries. Another historic destination is the Church of St. Vavřinec. It is a valuable historic monument of the early Gothic Cistercian-Burgundian type. A Renaissance tower was built on the north side of the chancel in 1565. The Stations of the Cross are located on the south side of the church. They were completed in 2004; the following year, a path was laid around them and plantings were added.

Museums and excursions with children

The Vracov Railway Museum displays, among other things, cardboard tickets, old documents, photographs and a locomotive model. Two smaller museums offer a different perspective on the local past: Museum No. 1 presents life from the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century, while Museum No. 2 is furnished with items from the middle of the 20th century. The two collections therefore emphasize different periods.

The electrified narrow-gauge Železnice 600 garden railway is 650 metres long in Vracov. Currently, three train sets with a total capacity of around 100 people are in operation. Železnice 600 transports the public and tourists on its narrow-gauge garden railway. For families, this is a clearly defined experience alongside the historic museums.

Koupaliště Vracov also offers several specific facilities. The grounds include a 50-by-20-metre main pool as well as a small children's pool with a water mushroom and slide. There is also beach volleyball, table tennis and a children's playground. Changing rooms with lockers, toilets, showers and a snack bar complete the facilities.
