Velké Němčice

The Moravian-Silesian Pilgrimage Route leads from Nosislav along the Svratka to Velké Němčice. In Velké Němčice, it runs through the town centre. A second point of orientation is the Velkopavlovická Wine Trail. It is 109 kilometres long, passes through 31 wine-growing municipalities and is marked with yellow metal signs bearing the wine trail’s blue logo. The southern loop is also important for understanding the route: it leads from Židlochovice via Velké Němčice to Uherčice. The wine trail then runs through Velké Němčice along road II/425.

Church, Chapel and Brewing History

The architectural history of Velké Němčice also offers several distinct points of interest. The Pivovar brewery building is an integral part of the château estate. The Pivovar was first mentioned in 1578 and preserves its original layout, with vaulted structures and typical brewery elements. It is precisely this combination of documented age, original layout and characteristic architectural features that makes the building a special part of the town’s history.

The Church of St Wenceslas and St Vitus was built around the middle of the 13th century as an originally Gothic structure. After wartime destruction, it was rebuilt and reconsecrated in 1652. Its main altar dates from 1895. The church thus combines medieval beginnings, reconstruction in the 17th century and furnishings from the late 19th century.

Another trace leads to the Kaštýlek Chapel. It was originally a Baroque chapel in the château gardens. Today, it is regarded as a valuable example of small-scale religious architecture and as a testimony to the château gardens, which no longer exist. Together with the church and the Pivovar, it offers a cultural perspective on Velké Němčice that reveals not only individual dates but also different architectural functions.
