From May to November, at least one wine cellar in Nový Šaldorf is open to visitors every day. This means that wine is not only part of the village’s history, but also shapes the possible structure of a visit over several months of the year. The local wine world is particularly vivid in the Modré sklepy area. It covers 9 hectares and contains more than 180 wine cellars.

The cellars of Modré sklepy are dug into sandstone with blue-grey clay layers. This geological feature also makes the area interesting for visitors who, in addition to tastings, are interested in traditional building methods and the character of the wine colony. At the centre of the wine colony there is also a historic wooden wine press from the 18th century. It adds to the picture of a wine tradition that is not limited to modern offerings, but remains visible in specific historic structures.

Cultural Monuments and Local Festivals

In Sedlešovice, there is a late Gothic column that is considered a cultural monument. It was erected at the beginning of the 16th century in memory of a severe flood. Next to this column stand two further columns bearing the names of soldiers who fell in the First World War. Together, the monuments reveal different historical layers of the village: an event from the early modern period and the remembrance of those who fell in the 20th century.

The festival calendar also has its own distinctive features. The traditional September Posvícení in Nový Šaldorf-Sedlešovice includes the raising of a maypole. In November, celebrations for St. Martin’s Day take place at the historic wine presses. If you choose your trip according to the season, different cultural occasions take centre stage: Posvícení in September or the St. Martin’s Day events in November.

Podyjí and Wine Cycling Trails

Part of the municipal area of Nový Šaldorf-Sedlešovice lies within Podyjí National Park.
