Discover Moravské Knínice

Moravské Knínice between the educational trail, chapels and wet meadows

Moravské Knínice reveals its character particularly clearly along the local educational trail. With nine stops, it leads past natural features and sights from the area’s history. The blue-marked hiking route runs from the central bus stop to the pond below the chapel. It thus connects the landscape, local history and notable points for shared exploration.

History along paths and hills

The Church of St Margaret, built in 1366, is one of the historical points of reference. Another landmark is the Chapel of St Cyril and St Methodius south of Moravské Knínice. It stands on a hill alongside the road to Písky. The Chapel of St John of Nepomuk is located at the corner of Kuřimská and U Jánečka streets, on the second-class road towards Kuřim.

Local tradition is also part of the character of the village. Markétské hody is an annual tradition of costumed celebrations for the feast of Saint Margaret. Those choosing accommodation in Moravské Knínice will therefore find not only nature-related attractions, but also tangible connections to history and regional customs.

Natural monuments and distinctive landscapes

The Obůrky-Třeštěnec Natural Monument lies in the cadastral area of Moravské Knínice and covers approximately 2.63 hectares. It protects wet-meadow communities at the bottom of a permanently waterlogged depression, with numerous important plant and animal species.

U Kaple-Stráňky is a 2.5-hectare ecologically significant landscape feature and local biocentre located 500 metres south of Moravské Knínice, below the Chapel of St Cyril and St Methodius. Čihadlo offers a different landscape impression, with most of its area consisting of an extensively grassed cherry orchard. Mokré louky za střelnicí also preserves the last fragment of the original semi-cultivated meadows in the Kuřim area and the wider surroundings of Brno.

Water and orientation for your stay

The Pod kaplí pond is designated as a natural bathing area. Swimming is at your own risk; designation as a bathing area therefore does not imply additional information about operation, facilities or current availability. For travel orientation, Moravské Knínice has a bus stop for IDS-JMK route 312 on Kuřimská Street, near Knínický hostinec.

When looking for a hotel or other accommodation in Moravské Knínice, you can therefore compare different priorities: access to local history, orientation around the central bus stop, or the location of natural and landscape areas. The documented places provide specific themes for this, without any characteristics of individual accommodations being inferred from them.
