Discover Malhostovice: Nature, Cycling Route and Culture

Malhostovice combines a remarkable landscape with clearly recognizable historical traces. Protected landscape with rare vegetation

The “Malhostovické kopečky” are at the heart of the area’s natural attractions. The site is designated as a Site of Community Importance within the Natura 2000 network. The protected area preserves calcareous or basic rocky grasslands as well as near-natural dry grasslands and shrub formations on calcareous substrates. At the same time, it features very well-preserved steppe vegetation in an otherwise intensively farmed landscape.

For nature enthusiasts, the combination of landscape form and species richness is particularly interesting. Numerous rare and protected thermophilic species occur in the “Malhostovické kopečky”. These include the European-significance great pasque flower (Pulsatilla grandis). Malhostovice’s natural attractions therefore represent not merely a generally protected area, but a specifically described habitat with limestone-influenced rocky grasslands and dry grasslands.

Church with several construction phases

A separate cultural highlight is the “kostel sv. Vavřince” church in Malhostovice. It is protected as a cultural monument in the Czech Republic; its register number is ÚSKP 46109/7-808, and it has been protected since 3 May 1958. It is a valuable art-historical monument.

Its architectural history combines several clearly recognizable elements. The building is essentially late Romanesque, has a Renaissance tower and was extensively rebuilt in the 1830s. Those interested in historic architecture can therefore trace different stages of development in this one building, without reducing the church to just one period.

Brabinka Reconciliation Stone

Another historical landmark of the village is the Brabinka Reconciliation Stone. It is a rounded sandstone stele with a carved cross. The stone probably dates from the 16th century. This cautious dating is part of the character of the monument and should be retained when interpreting it.

Cycling route to the Zlobice lookout tower

There is a specific connection for active exploration: cycling route 5197 leads from Malhostovice to the lookout tower on Zlobice. The lookout tower is 12.5 metres high, and its viewing platform is 9 metres above the ground. This makes it possible to combine cycling planning with a clear destination and precise structural details.
