Discover Korolupy

Korolupy lies on the right bank of the Blatnice River and combines village cultural monuments with small discoveries in the landscape. Village Square, Church and Visible Local History

A good starting point for exploring the local history is the village square. There, by the church, stands a memorial to those who fell in the First World War, dating from 1929. The square also shows the remains of a former quarry for dark gabbro. The historic character of this place remains clear: these are traces of a former quarry, not a quarry operation described as active today.

The parish Church of Saint Lawrence is a late Baroque church from the second half of the 18th century. It has been listed as a protected cultural monument since 1958; regular services are held in the church.

Altán Korolupy near Uherčice

One of the most distinctive cultural destinations in the surrounding area is Altán Korolupy. The brick park pavilion stands in a landscaped park northeast of Uherčice Chateau. Its appearance is unusual: the late Baroque building from the late 18th century is centrally positioned, tower-like and provided with a basement. It stands in a dominant landscape position at the intersection of long avenues lined with trees.

Its original function also differs from that of ordinary park architecture. Altán Korolupy initially served hunting purposes and later meditation. It is therefore particularly interesting for your travel planning if you would like to experience historic buildings not only as photographic subjects, but also as places with an understandable history of use.

Water, Forest and Cycle Route

The municipal pond is used for swimming and complements the cultural and historical sights with a simple opportunity to spend time by the water. The forests around Korolupy offer opportunities for mushroom picking. These two options suit different day plans: you can discover the village through its architectural monuments or focus on water and forest.

For a cycling tour, the Vranovsko Cycle Route provides an easy-to-follow guide. It is signposted in both directions with yellow metal signs bearing a black-and-white castle-and-sword logo. The route runs almost exclusively along lightly trafficked paved roads; only at two points does it switch to unpaved farm tracks.

Small Religious Buildings and the Mill

Besides the church and Altán, several smaller buildings form part of the village landscape. The Chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows is a small chapel in the late Empire style on the road to Vysočany. A small chapel, a late Classicist building from the second half of the 19th century, also stands on the road towards Uherčice. The niche chapel at the edge of the forest adds a location at the transition between the village and the forest to this sequence of small religious buildings.

West of Korolupy, the preserved Korolupský mlýn mill stands in an isolated location. Together with the chapels, the church and the pavilion, it creates not a single sightseeing destination, but a picture of various historical traces located at different points in the landscape.
