Discover Dobelice

Dobelice can be discovered through its local architecture, historical traces, and distinctive landscapes. Those who want to combine different impressions on their journey will find several small, clearly distinct destinations here: a reconstructed bell chapel in the village, a short forest nature trail, the site of the former fortress and village of Ledvice, and the nature-rich protected area of Na Kocourkách.

Architecture and History in Dobelice

The Zvonička na návsi is at the heart of the village’s history. It was built in 1881 and reconstructed in 2010. The reconstruction formed part of the celebrations marking the 750th anniversary of the founding of Dobelice. The structure therefore connects its original period of construction with a more recent chapter in the village’s history. Another distinctive feature is the Kaplička na křižovatce, regarded as a valuable example of vernacular sacred architecture.

Historical traces can also be found outside the actual village centre. The site of the former fortress and village of Ledvice lies about half a kilometre southwest of Dobelice. At the Ledvice castle site, a prominent ditch separates the central part of the complex from the slightly elevated outer bailey. The site is therefore interesting not only for its historical name but also for its recognisable spatial layout. For visitors interested in the region’s past, it offers a different way of accessing history than the preserved sacred architecture in the village.

Forest Nature Trail and Landscape Observation

Below Dobelice lies the Stezka Lesním světem, a short forest nature trail approximately 0.5 km long. The site includes a wetland and a larger rest area. The trail thus creates a clear landscape focus alongside the historical themes: the emphasis here is not on the architectural past, but on the forest, moisture, and the immediate natural environment. The approximate length remains important because it describes the character of the route as a short discovery in the landscape.

Another natural-history feature is Na Kocourkách. Na Kocourkách consists of three small elevations in the fields and is known for its fossils. These include shark teeth, mollusc shells, and fish vertebrae and teeth. These finds also make the site interesting for travellers who want to perceive not only plants and present-day forms in a landscape, but also traces of its geological past.

The Na Kocourkách protected area safeguards semi-natural dry grasslands and populations of the large-flowered pasque flower and sand iris. It is home to thermophilous plant communities with numerous rare and endangered plant and animal species. The Ledvice castle site is also botanically interesting: In early spring, several plant species occur there, including Czech gagea, lesser gagea, marsh yellowcress, and pasque flowers. Historical exploration is thus complemented by a seasonally shaped observation of the plant world.
