Šebrov-Kateřina between Valley, Church and Forest

Šebrov-Kateřina combines a distinctive cultural landscape with trails through forests and along the Šebrovka. Šebrov lies in a lower-lying hollow at the confluence of streams in hilly terrain. To the north, the Vranovské lesy border the built-up areas of Šebrov-Kateřina. As a result, different impressions come together in the village and its surroundings: historical traces, open valley areas and wooded slopes.

Those who want to combine culture and nature in a single day plan will find particularly diverse points of interest here. St Catherine Church was built in the 15th century on a rocky spur near Šebrov in the style of late rustic Gothic. It is traditionally dated to 1469. The three-aisled building therefore has not only a striking location, but also a clearly recognisable historical form. A large gravestone in the front left area of the nave is said to seal the entrance to a crypt beneath the church. St Catherine Church can be reached by IDS-JMK bus route 152 via the Sv. Kateřina stop.

Local customs are also part of the character of the area. During the Masopust procession in Svatá Kateřina, traditional koblížky and other small dishes are offered at the houses. Historically, the Šebrovka was a border stream and divided Šebrov between two estates. Such details make the history of the village visible not only in a single building, but also in the landscape and regional traditions.

Trails through Valley, Forest and Karst Landscape

The area around Duchova rozhledna is ideal for walks and views. From the centre of Šebrov-Kateřina, a 1.2 km green-marked trail leads to a viewpoint near Duchova rozhledna. There is a rest area with seating and a fire pit in its vicinity. From Duchova rozhledna, views extend southwards over wooded hills and the karst landscape of the Moravian Karst.

Other landscape areas offer their own distinctive features. The local Nezbedka biocentre encompasses the Šebrovka Valley with meadows and adjacent woodland. The local Na Šebrovce biocentre encompasses woodland with a higher proportion of naturally occurring species. Those who want to take trails, valleys and forest landscapes into account when choosing accommodation can include these different settings separately in their travel plans rather than treating them as a single attraction.

Cyclists will also find a specific route through the administrative area. The cycle route known as “cyklotrasa P. Bezruče” runs through Šebrov-Kateřina from north to south. In the area, it follows access roads through woodland and along the Šebrovka River. The Pivní stezka Petra Bezruče differs from it and runs along the Vranov u Brna – Šebrov – vrch Jedle route. Depending on the preferred focus, this allows for considering either a route through forest and river landscapes or a broader route between several places.
