Zvěrotice combines village history with cycling and hiking trails, a versatile sports complex and the South Bohemian countryside. The character of the village is particularly vivid in the historic village center, which includes the original agricultural farmsteads, their rear outbuildings, and adjoining gardens and orchards. The village center is also designated as an architecturally and urbanistically valuable part of the area. Those who want to learn about not only individual sights but also the evolved structure of a village will find an independent cultural focus here.

Historic Village Center and Village Square

At the center is a circular village square with a broad public space. It is surrounded by original agricultural farmsteads and connected by an extensive network of paths. A chapel dedicated to Saint John of Nepomuk stands on the village square. Several layers of the village’s history therefore meet in a compact area: rural buildings, the public square and a religious structure.

Notable evidence of the surrounding area can also be found outside the village center. Southwest of Zvěrotice, a Neoclassical niche chapel stands on the embankment of road II/135. It is described as a distinctive landmark in the landscape and as an important landscape-defining element. Its location by the road makes it a clearly recognizable reference point, without implying any specific access or viewing opportunity.

Cycling, Hiking and Sports

For cyclists, Route 1180 provides a specific connection through the village: it runs from Soběslav via Zvěrotice to Sedlečko u Soběslavě. Within the administrative area of Zvěrotice, it follows a local road between existing buildings toward Sedlečko u Soběslavě. For sporting stays, the village has a public multi-purpose artificial-turf sports field. It is designed for small-sided football, handball, foot tennis, volleyball, floorball, basketball and tennis. The sports field and its associated operating building are available to the public; they can be made available at specific times by arrangement for sporting and social events. The operating building has a freely accessible toilet for visitors to the sports complex.

Zárubův Mlýn and the South Bohemian Landscape

West of Zvěrotice, on the Černovický potok stream, stands Zárubův Mlýn mill. Its first documented mention dates from 1648. The Záruba family milled grain there for almost 200 years. A historical record from 1460 mentions Zvěrotice together with two mills and the forests known as “Na Libuši”.

The village name itself also has a traditional explanation: Zvěrotice is said to be derived from the personal name Zvěrota, considered to be the name of the settlement’s founder. The surrounding area features a picturesque South Bohemian landscape of fields, pastures, ponds and copses. The open landscape thus complements the village’s historical details with a distinctly rural setting. Zvěrotice therefore offers different ways to experience a stay: village history on the village square, the niche chapel southwest of Zvěrotice and Zárubův Mlýn mill west of Zvěrotice, cycling on Route 1180, a blue-marked hiking trail running northeast of Zvěrotice, and sporting opportunities in the public complex.
