Zálezly: Castle History, Educational Trail and Sports Complex

Zálezly combines notable traces of its history with a clearly described educational trail and opportunities for physical activity in the sports complex. If you are looking for a place for your trip where culture and a family-friendly outing can be combined, you will find several different points of interest here: from the Věnec hillfort and the fortress of Zálezly to the stations of the Kovanínská zvířátka educational trail.

Castle and Architectural History in Zálezly

The fortified area of the Věnec hillfort covers nearly 8 hectares. The fortress of Zálezly was first mentioned in 1544. Its surviving core, the tower-shaped residential building, is located in a house in the southern part of the settlement. The historical significance therefore lies not only in a distinct fortified area, but also in a preserved structural element within the present-day townscape.

The local architectural history also includes the former general school in Zálezly. It was built in 1872 according to a design by Josef Zítek. The Chapel of St. John of Nepomuk was built in 1852. Those interested in smaller historic places and their individual architectural monuments can therefore connect different periods and types of buildings in Zálezly without reducing the town to a single attraction.

Kovanínská zvířátka Educational Trail

The Kovanínská zvířátka educational trail begins in Kovanín, a district of the municipality of Zálezly. The 3 km section between Kovanín and Budilov runs on a paved surface, forms part of cycle route 1234 and can also be navigated with a pram. The firm surface and manageable route length make it easier to plan an outing with a pram and short stages.

The educational trail has 12 stations with hand-painted animal-shaped stones and is open year-round. The animal stones mark individual stopping points along the route, allowing the outing to be divided into stages. Its year-round opening also keeps the trail available for different travel periods.

Sports Complex, Playground and Other Routes

The children's playground in Zálezly is located in the Za školou sports complex. The sports complex has two courts for tennis, football tennis and volleyball; they are named Jenda Benda and Jarda Kudrna and can be reserved for use. Zálezly's public swimming pool served as a venue for municipal celebrations, meetings of former residents and club anniversaries.

A red-marked hiking trail also leads from Zálezly towards Věnec and Vimperk. Together with the educational trail, this provides a choice between a locally defined outing and a marked connection in two directions. If you are looking for accommodation in Zálezly, you can therefore assess the town according to whether you would like to include historical landmarks and a specifically described route in your travel plans.
