Vitín

Vitín combines a distinctive natural experience with early medieval history and clear points of reference for active excursions. Sport fishing is offered at the municipal Havlák Pond, while above the village near Baba lies a burial mound cemetery with 69 burial mounds dating from the late 8th and 9th centuries. There is also a village chapel from 1815, a marked cycling trail, and the municipality’s location along the D3 motorway between Prague and České Budějovice. Havlák: Pond, sport fishing and protected nature

Havlák Pond covers more than 7,000 square metres. Its revitalised grounds include a water pool zone with an adjoining biotope. This creates a specific focal point in the landscape where the importance of water to the village is combined with a concrete leisure activity: sport fishing is offered at the municipal pond.

The surrounding natural area is also clearly characterised. The Hlubocké obory Natura 2000 site includes the cadastral territory of Vitín. In South Bohemia, the Hlubocké obory form one of the most valuable complexes of near-natural woodland, consisting in particular of oak-hornbeam forests and lime-beech forests. This classification complements the pond with a woodland theme and makes Vitín interesting for visitors who do not want to focus their trip exclusively on local culture or a single activity.

History on Baba Hill

The burial mound cemetery near Baba above Vitín is a particularly specific destination for visitors interested in history. The 69 burial mounds date from the late 8th and 9th centuries and are arranged in regular rows from west to east. This regular west-to-east arrangement gives the site a clearly recognisable orientation. The Vitín burial mound cemetery lies on the southeastern slope of Baba Hill. Vitín itself also has a long local history. The village layout dates back to the High Middle Ages. A smaller and illustrative historic monument is the Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk: it is a brick village chapel with a semicircular apse and a small bell turret in the gable, and is dated to 1815. The chapel and the village layout thus represent different historical periods.

Cycling route and transport connections

For active days, the marked local KČT Cycling Trail No. 1058 is an important reference point. It runs from Hluboká nad Vltavou via Chotýčany and Vitín to Ševětín.
