Discover Libníč: Spa History, Trails and the Libníčské slavnosti

Libníč combines its spa history with trails, historical traces and a regular festival tradition. If you would like to combine moments in nature with local history on your trip, you will find several different points of interest here. The town is therefore suited as a starting point for an exploration focusing not only on a single attraction, but on the combination of landscape, history and local life.

Spa history on an educational trail and hiking trail

The “Lázeňství v Libníči” educational trail provides detailed information about the local spa history. It offers direct thematic access to the tradition that continues to shape Libníč today. In addition, the yellow-marked hiking trail from Libníč to Lišov passes the former spa buildings in Libníč, Vila Gabriela and Větrník. The designation “former” is part of the historical classification of the spa buildings. The trail connects several specific stops and makes local history tangible as part of a hike.

Park, valley and a rest stop at Schwarz Pond

The park by the Church of the Most Holy Trinity offers a peaceful setting for relaxation. A wooded valley with remnants of park landscaping adjoins the spa complex in Libníč. Together, these places create a landscape in which the former spa tradition and the natural surroundings stand closely side by side. The spa complex with its school, villas and church forms a valuable ensemble in Libníč. Schwarz Pond between Libníč and Jelmo offers riders and horses an opportunity for a short rest along the bridle path.

Mining and historical details of the town

The history of Libníč extends beyond its spa tradition. At the end of the 18th century, more than 100 guests per year were treated at the spas in Libníč. As early as 1593, a flood submerged the mines near Libníč. Mining activity near Libníč ended completely five years after the 1593 flood. Another historical peculiarity is the statue now standing in Libníč: it is a copy created by the academic sculptor Ivan Tlášek.

Vila Gabriela and the festival tradition

The Vila Gabriela ensemble in Jelmo comprises Villa No. 12, Building No. 24, an orangery, a greenhouse and a garden. Together with Vila Gabriela as a stop on the yellow-marked trail, this creates an additional connection between the trail experience and historical architecture. The Libníčské slavnosti offer another way to experience local life. They have been held regularly since 2007 on the last Saturday in August in Libníč’s village square. The 2026 Libníčské slavnosti were the 20th edition and were dedicated to the spa season.
