Úsilné: Peasant Baroque, Chapel and Local Traditions
Úsilné is a place for visitors who want to discover historical details, distinctive townscapes and living traditions. There are also small special features, such as a fountain with a donkey statue and a regional speciality made according to an old recipe.
Chapel, Fountain and Distinctive Local Details
The Chapel of Saint Wenceslas in Úsilné is a Neo-Gothic chapel dating from 1900.
The year 1900 and the Neo-Gothic style give the building a clear chronological and architectural context. Compared with the examples of Peasant Baroque at U Sukdolů and U Prokšů, it therefore represents a different form of architecture within the townscape.
Another distinctive feature is the fountain in Úsilné. It is fitted with a bronze statue of a donkey, while water from the Eliášova štola is channelled into the fountain. Thus, a single local feature brings together design and a connection to the Eliášova štola.
Peasant Baroque and Local Character
The U Sukdolů farmstead is one of the local examples of Peasant Baroque. Its gable features particularly large volutes. House No. 9, “U Prokšů”, is also one of the local examples of this architectural style.
The “oslí uši” have their own culinary character. Local women bakers make them according to an old recipe in either a savoury or sweet version.
Educational Trail and Eliášova štola
The Člověk a krajina educational trail has 13 stops with information panels. At the edge of Úsilné, there is a stop dedicated to the history of Úsilné and the cultivation of the land. The trail therefore focuses not only on views of the landscape, but also on the development of the place and the way its surroundings are managed.
Another distinctive feature is the Eliášova dědičná štola. A 400 m section is open to visitors. If you want to explore local history not only through buildings and information panels, this accessible section adds an underground setting to the topics associated with the place.
The length of 400 m clearly defines the accessible section and makes it easier to place this visit within the wider themes of the town.
Annual Celebrations
The Svatováclavská pouť is held annually in Úsilné. The revived pilgrimage is associated with a reunion of former residents and friends of the municipality. For more than 30 years, Úsilné has also hosted the three-day Dětské dny radosti every year. For your travel planning, these events provide specific dates alongside the local features described as being available year-round.
