Pfaffendorf: Discover Mining History, Trails and Landscapes

The focus is on mining history, marked and unmarked trails, and waterside and forest landscapes. The following destinations help you choose between culture, hiking and cycling. Depending on your interests, you can plan your stay as a historical walk, an active cycling tour or a peaceful day between pond and forest.

Mining History and Historical Traces

The administrative area of the municipality of Hlincová Hora contains archaeological sites and monuments of silver mining. The educational trail “Cesta kolem hornického města” is a fitting addition: its information panels provide a coherent overview of the beginnings, development and decline of mining in the Rudolfov region. The chronological sequence connects individual stations into an understandable historical trail. Anyone wishing to combine a hike with regional history will find a clear thematic focus here.

The Dvůr Lusteneck farmstead provides another distinctive historical accent. It has survived in its original form to this day and is considered an important witness to turbulent times. A footpath also runs by Pramen Pod Lustenkem, connecting the two branches of the “Rudolfovo město” educational trail. The farmstead and footpath complement the educational trail with additional fixed points for a historically themed route. Here, historical content and paths through the landscape meet directly.

Hiking and Cycling on Various Trails

For cyclists, the path between Hlincová Hora and Rudolfov, with its natural surface, is a specific option. The region of Hlincová Hora is also crossed by the important intermunicipal Cycle Route 1096, following the route Rudolfov – Mrhal Pond – Zvíkov – Vlkovice – Libín – Spolí – Domanín – Třeboň. The complete sequence of destinations provides clear guidance for planning a cycling tour and helps divide its course into individual sections.

A red-marked KČT hiking trail runs between Mrhal and Dubičné through Hlincová Hora. The “Rudolfovo město” mining educational trail also passes through the Hlincová Hora area, partly following the cycle path. The “Cesta kolem hornického města” educational trail can be accessed from the cycle route via Rudolfov to Mrhal Pond.

Circular Route No. 1 is suitable for hiking and cycling. In addition, the unmarked local roads and paths in the Hlincová Hora area are used by hikers, mountain bikers and riders; in good snow conditions, they are also suitable for cross-country skiing. This allows you to distinguish between marked routes and a less strictly defined network of paths. These different types of trails make it possible to plan with clear route guidance or with greater flexibility in choosing the route.

Pond, Forest and Landscape History

Mrhal Pond and the adjacent forest complexes are used for daytime recreation. Traces of artificial drainage ditches from earlier times can still be seen in the Děkanské lesy. Alongside water and forest, the historical shaping of the landscape is therefore another topic you can take into account when planning your trip. The ditches make it clear that the forest can be viewed not only as a natural area but also as a historically shaped landscape.
