The townscape also includes the stone town tower, which was built next to the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in the first half of the 16th century. The town tower is open to the public; the viewing platform is reached by 144 stone and 32 wooden steps.

The Church of „Božího Těla a sv. Ducha“ is one of the oldest buildings in Slavonice. It stands on a hill above Slavonice and, due to its elevated position, clearly contributes to the character of the landscape around the town. The interior contains numerous valuable architectural elements, especially from the late Gothic period. Another special feature is the Lutheran place of worship in House No. 517. It dates from the 16th century and is decorated with murals depicting scenes from the Apocalypse.

Fortifications and Underground Experiences

The Slavonice fortification area illustrates part of the defensive line of the Czechoslovak Republic, which was built between 1935 and 1938. Five reconstructed structures in the fortification area are open to the public when the operator is present and are equipped with period equipment and weapons. On the first Saturday of every August, the public combat demonstration “Přepadení řopíků 1938” is held regularly in the Slavonice fortification area from 2 p.m.

The Slavonické podzemí also offers a clear choice between two tour formats: the shorter route is 136 metres long and takes approximately 30 minutes; the longer, more challenging route covers 380 metres and takes approximately 60 minutes. The shorter route is illuminated and includes three stops with explanations provided by a guide. This makes it possible to compare the two options based on length and duration alone.

A Different View of the Surroundings
