Pístina Between Village History and the Třeboňsko Region

Pístina combines a medieval settlement structure that can still be clearly read today with ponds, forests and the protected landscape of the Třeboňsko Region. The essentially preserved original plot layout, with 16 large farmsteads, is documented in the Berní rula tax register of 1654, the Theresian Cadastre of 1757 and a building cadastre map from 1827. Here, local history is visible to you not only through individual buildings, but also through the arrangement of the village.

Pístina lies within the Třeboňsko Protected Landscape Area and Biosphere Reserve and is surrounded by ponds and forests. At the same time, the village is one of the settlements in the Třeboňsko Region with a village heritage conservation or preservation zone. Those wishing to combine nature with historic village settings when planning their trip will therefore find two clearly identifiable focal points here.

Chapels, Boundary Fences and Distinctive Village Details

The centre is dominated by the chapel built in 1824, dedicated to Saint Catherine and the Fourteen Holy Helpers. It is now a protected monument and stands on the village green in the centre of the village. Its distinctive feature is its hexagonal roof lantern with an onion-shaped finial. Pístina also has a small chapel at house no. 10 and a stone wayside shrine at house no. 87.

The historic village setting also includes several preserved stretches of traditional stone boundary fences. The stone fence between the Adamovi and Daňhů properties is particularly prominent. These details complement the broad outlines of the village structure with tangible traces of everyday life in the past. The stone boundary fences mark the boundaries between the properties and are therefore themselves part of the village setting. Flax used to be widely grown in the area around Pístina. It was used for the then widespread production of linen; the communities had shared flax-drying kilns, known as pazderny, for processing it.

Jewish Cemetery and Protected Surroundings

Another important site is the Pístina Jewish Cemetery. It was established from 1850 on the edge of the forest, about 2 km west of Stráž nad Nežárkou. The cemetery contains more than 100 gravestones, most of them dating from the second half of the 19th century. The cemetery is locked; you can borrow the key from the town hall in Stráž nad Nežárkou. The cemetery lies at the edge of the forest, while the chapel stands on the village green in the centre of the village.

In the immediate vicinity, the Nežárka cycle path runs from the tourist signpost at Stráž nad Nežárkou Château via Šimanov to Jemčina.

The feast of Saint Catherine, Posvícení sv. Kateřiny, is associated with the dates 21 November 2015, 19 November 2016, 24 November 2018 and 22 November 2025 in Pístina. The dates fall between 2015 and 2025 and refer to past celebrations.
