Radkov between Cultural Heritage and Hilly Landscapes

Radkov is located in the northernmost part of South Bohemia, in a highly varied, hilly landscape. The entire area is agricultural in character; there is no significant industry there. As a result, local history, landscapes and trails are the main focus of a trip to Radkov. Several well-marked hiking trails run through the area, offering different ways to experience the character of the village at your own pace.

House No. 17 and the History of the Village

The two-storey House No. 17 was built predominantly using timber construction and has an elongated rectangular floor plan. At the same time, it is Radkov’s listed immovable cultural monument. Radkov u Tábora is also registered as an archaeological area with documented or well-founded suspected archaeological finds. The origins of the village are associated with the 13th century, while written records only date from the beginning of the 15th century. Another historical trace leads to Jícha z Radkowa, who is considered the first known man from the settlement. He adopted the Hussite teachings and moved to Tábor with several other residents.

Village Green, Chapel and Regional Connections

A monument commemorating those who fell in the First World War stands on the village green in the centre of Radkov. Since 2004, Radkov has been a member of the Společenství obcí Čertovo Břemeno municipal association. Radkov is thus one of the five municipalities in the northern part of South Bohemia that belong to this municipal association. For you, this connection to the region complements the local sights with an institutional and communal dimension.

Watercourses and Cycling Connections

At the north-western edge of the Radkov area, the Leštinský potok flows through a steep-sided, wooded valley. There, it forms a valuable natural axis as well as a local biocorridor. To the east, a gorge carved by the Radkovský potok forms the boundary of the area; it has a similar function and importance within the ÚSES system. The Radkovský potok is part of the watercourse network of Líderovice. There are also specific regional connections for cycling: In 2012, the international Prague–Vienna Greenways cycling route ran along the road from Radkov to Kostelec. The “Krajinou srdce” cycling route leads as far as the junction before Radkov, where it turns west onto road III/1233 towards Radkov.

The themes of the village can be connected with one another: The marked hiking trails reveal the hilly, agriculturally shaped surroundings, while House No. 17, the monument next to the chapel and the archaeological area represent its historical traces. The two watercourses add wooded valleys, a natural axis and a local biocorridor to this perspective. As you explore, culture, landscape and regional routes emerge as distinct aspects of Radkov. The Prague–Vienna Greenways route points to an earlier international cycling connection, while the Krajinou srdce route represents a specific local connection.
