Kubova Huť – Hiking at Boubín and Winter Sports

Kubova Huť is a starting point for a range of experiences around Boubín: the shortest route to the summit starts here, while the Around the Boubín Forest hike also begins in the village. Nature is complemented by the Golden Trail Museum and a ski area with four downhill slopes. If you want to weigh up forest paths, mountain hiking, culture and winter sports for your trip, Kubova Huť offers clearly distinct points of interest for each.

Hiking between Boubín and forest paths

The Around the Boubín Forest hike begins in Kubova Huť on the blue-marked trail and leads along forest paths. It is 17.9 kilometres long. The climb to the lookout tower begins less than 5 kilometres from the car park. On the way to Boubín, you pass old military bunkers and reach Bázumské louky, where a covered place to rest is available.

The Boubínský rybník pond is one of the route's stops. It formerly served as a water reservoir for a flume; today, there are benches and tables there for relaxing and taking a break. The route also passes the Jilmová skála natural monument and then continues along the forest educational trail. In this way, the route combines specific landscape features with the documented historical use of the pond and information about forestry.

Important for planning: The lookout tower on Boubín has been closed since 5 July 2025 following a decision by structural engineers. The described mountain and hiking connection therefore should not be equated with a currently possible visit to the tower.

Winter sports with a clear division of slopes

The Ski area Kubova Huť has four downhill slopes: one red and three blue. The red Střecha slope is 600 metres long. The area uses artificial snowmaking and has lighting for evening skiing. This makes it possible to classify the town's focus on winter sports based on specific slope colours, the length of the red run and the available facilities, without assuming other seasonal characteristics.

The Golden Trail and regional history

The Golden Trail Museum in Kubova Huť opened to the public in early August 2024. It focuses on the history of the Golden Trail and also covers the history of glassmaking, forestry and nature conservation. Its contents include local exhibits, videos, information texts and an artistically designed relief depicting the three branches of the Golden Trail.

The Vimperk branch of the Golden Trail formerly ran through Kubova Huť. The Celtic educational trail Keltská naučná stezka begins in Kubova Huť and leads via Boubín and Mařský vrch to Věnec. The museum includes covered seating for visitors and a room suitable for concerts. In this way, a visit to the museum complements the natural experiences with regional trail history and topics that extend beyond a single hiking route.
