Tvrzice: Between a Cultural Monument and Regional Discovery

Tvrzice is a destination for anyone who wants to get to know historic village landscapes not only through large castles, but through specific buildings, details, and their integration into the village. Particularly characteristic is Usedlost čp. 7, which is protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. Its originally yellow-and-blue gable makes the farmstead unmistakable. The Usedlost is attributed to the folk builder Jakub Bursa and dates from his heyday between 1860 and 1862. The combination of a protected monument, a colorful gable, and an attributed construction date makes the farmstead an illustrative starting point for exploring the history of the village. When viewed together, the facade detail, the form of the building, and its location on the village square create a coherent impression.

Farmsteads, Festivities, and Notable Architectural Details

The former fortress stands next to Farmstead No. 7 on a rise near the northern side of the village square. The protected features include the former fortress, the associated plots of land, and the surrounding wall. Two coats of arms and an inscription plaque were later set into the south wall facing the village. These individual elements give the place a tangible historical depth, without requiring you to limit yourself to a mere list of sights. The position on the rise and the orientation toward the village also draw attention to the relationship between the farmstead, square, and wall. This makes it possible to view the former fortress as part of the village landscape, not merely as an individual protected object.

Usedlost čp. 9 is also one of the prominent historical traces in Tvrzice. It was formerly an inn and has since been rebuilt. What remains is part of an originally large farmstead with a residential building, surrounding wall, and a representative gate. The gate is crowned by a statue dated 1807. The statue depicts a bearded old man in ecclesiastical robes wearing a papal tiara. Usedlost čp. 11 complements this scene with a winged volute gable and a folk-style painting. Several historical layers are concentrated in this particular spot: its former use as an inn, the surviving farmstead structures, and the figure dated 1807. Together with the gable of No. 11, they create a richly detailed section of the village landscape, where the gate, wall, and facade ornamentation catch the eye one after another.

Mountains and Regional Destinations around Tvrzice

For further orientation in the landscape, Volovický vrch mountain in the vicinity of Tvrzice is a useful reference point. The wider regional surroundings also include Včelenský vrch, Libín, and Boubín mountains. The Radomysl Mediumwave Radio Mast ruin and the ancient site of Chlumany are also located there. The regional spectrum thus ranges from mountains to a ruin and an ancient site.
