Discover Olesnik

Olesnik among River Meadows, Architectural History and Cycling Routes

Olesnik brings together several ways to spend your time in a small area: you can admire a Baroque chapel, discover historic architecture, explore two different routes by bicycle or plan a day at the pool in summer. This combination makes the place appealing to travellers who want to combine culture and active excursions without placing the character of just one experience at the centre of their visit.

Chapel in the Rachačka River Valley

One notable cultural landmark is the Chapel of St. Rosalia. It stands in the valley of the Rachačka stream in the cadastral area of Olešník. The sacred building is constructed of brick and has a rectangular floor plan. A narrower rectangular presbytery is attached to it, forming the original Baroque chapel. The wider main body and the narrower end together shape the building’s exterior. The rectangular basic forms remain recognisable in both sections.

Historical Traces in Olešník

The history of the village also includes the former Schwarzenberg estate farm in Olešník. It dates from 1724 and was built according to a design by A. E. Martinelli. As a former estate farm, it points to a historic use and should therefore not be equated with a present-day business or a currently offered visitor programme. The chapel and the estate farm thus represent two different historic building functions in the village. It nevertheless provides a clear architectural point of reference for exploring the area if you want to get to know the village not only through its landscape and recreational opportunities but also through its past.

Cycling with Two Different Routes

Cycling Route 1095 runs from U Rybáka in Olešník to Temelín. Cycling Route 1078 runs through Olešník. The two routes therefore differ in their course: one connects a starting point in Olešník with Temelín, while the other leads through the village. This gives you both a connection to a specific destination and a route through Olešník to choose from when planning your day.

Outdoor Pool with a Large Pool, Children’s Pool and Slide

Another option is the Koupaliště Olešník outdoor pool. In summer, it has an artificial swimming pool measuring 50 × 25 metres. There is also a smaller children’s pool measuring 15 × 15 metres, as well as a slide. The swimming pool is therefore significantly larger than the children’s pool; the slide complements the outdoor pool’s facilities.
