Ktiš in the Šumava Foothills: Nature, Trails and History
Ktiš lies in the Šumava Foothills and combines a distinctive landscape with a concentrated local and cultural history. The original settlement of Ktiš was founded before 1369 on the estate of Zlatá Koruna Monastery. The area offers several perspectives for planning your trip: water and marked trails, protected nature, nearby mountains, religious landmarks and local events. This allows you to decide whether to focus your stay primarily on the landscape, traces of history or a variety of experiences.
Nature and water around Ktiš
KtiÅ¡ský rybnÃk covers approximately 5 hectares. Natural swimming is possible at this pond, and the green-marked KÄŒT hiking trail from KtiÅ¡ to BÅ™ezovÃk runs along its dam.
The MiletÃnky Nature Reserve is located in the municipality of KtiÅ¡. It protects relic stands of serpentine pine with juniper in the shrub layer. In this way, the protected landscape complements the impression created by KtiÅ¡ský rybnÃk and the trails with a botanical rarity. The mountains in the immediate vicinity of KtiÅ¡ include Vrata and Chlum. Rohanovský vrch and BÅ™evniÅ¡tÄ› are also located nearby.
Trails, chapel and local history
The yellow-marked Ktiš–MiletÃnky route was relocated to trails outside the Boletice military area.
The Dobrá Voda Chapel and a Stations of the Cross are located on the slope of Ktišská hora. The Stations of the Cross by the Dobrá Voda Chapel form a circle approximately 50 metres in diameter. The Church of Saint Bartholomew in Ktiš is also part of the area's history: it was originally Gothic and was rebuilt in the Baroque period.
Chlumany is an ancient site in the vicinity of Ktiš. The range of possible discoveries therefore extends from the history of the original settlement through ecclesiastical architectural history to a historic site in the surrounding area. Depending on your preferred focus, you can give greater consideration when choosing your accommodation to the local cultural monuments or to nature and hiking destinations.
Local events
The Municipality of Ktiš is the main organizer of the Open Air Fest Ktiš. The event takes place at the sports field behind the village, in the direction of Volary. Another tradition is the Ktišská Bartolomějská pouť, which is associated with the Bartolomějské markets and wooden carousels. These two events represent different forms of experience: the Open Air Fest is tied to a specific venue, while the St. Bartholomew pilgrimage is associated with market activities and historic carousels.

When looking for accommodation in Ktiš, you can first decide which themes should define your trip.
