Šumavské Hoštice

Šumavské Hoštice combines distinctive sacred buildings with trails for hiking and cycling. The focus for visitors is therefore on a church on a ridge northeast of the centre, a chapel that shapes the landscape, a challenging walking route and a 47 km cycling route. Cultural Monuments Connected with the Landscape

The parish church “kostel sv. Filipa a Jakuba” is a local landmark in the landscape on a ridge northeast of the centre of Šumavské Hoštice. Its location on this ridge contributes to its local character just as much as the building itself. The church has a Romanesque-Gothic core. The church grounds also include a Baroque gate decorated with sculptures by Štěpán Pagan.

Another distinctive destination is the “Výklenková kaple sv. Jana Nepomuckého”. It is an example of vernacular Baroque. The chapel stands in open terrain on the horizon and, because of this location, plays a special role in shaping the landscape. The vernacular Baroque design and the open location on the horizon together define the character of this sacred building. Šumavské Hoštice therefore offers a church on a ridge and a chapel in the open landscape as two distinct destinations alongside each other.

Hiking and Cycling

For a challenging tour on foot, the route “Ze Šumavských Hoštic ke Svatému Vojtěchovi” leads from Šumavské Hoštice to Svatý Vojtěch. It is a walking route and is challenging because of its length. Another tourist trail leads to Boubín and is marked in yellow. The two trails thus lead to different destinations: one route connects Šumavské Hoštice with Svatý Vojtěch, while the other leads to Boubín.

A cycling route from Vimperk via Šumavské Hoštice to Machův Mlýn also passes through Šumavské Hoštice. The town lies between Vimperk and Machův Mlýn along the route. The route is 47 km long and classified as moderately difficult. Vimperk is the starting point, Šumavské Hoštice lies along the connection and Machův Mlýn marks the other end of the route.

The route options therefore differ in terms of mode of transport, destination and difficulty. The connection to Svatý Vojtěch is a challenging walking route, while the cycling route via Šumavské Hoštice is 47 km long and moderately difficult. The tourist trail to Boubín is marked in yellow.
