Bušanovice: Landscape and Jakub Bursa Heritage

Bušanovice lies in the Šumava foothills in the northern part of the Prachatice region. The village combines an open, varied landscape with notable traces of the region’s architectural and cultural history. If you are planning a trip away from major centres, you will find specific starting points here for nature experiences and historical discoveries.

Landscape in the Šumava Foothills

Bušanovice is part of the Čkyně Landscape Character Area, a varied and elevated landscape. The area around Bušanovice is predominantly open and includes broad ridges, deep valleys and valleys cut by small waterways. The Černý potok flows through the municipality and belongs to the Blanice drainage basin. These different landforms give the surroundings their distinct spatial character: broad vistas open up on the heights, while the valleys form their own lines and incisions.

Jakub Bursa and the Houses of Bušanovice

A particular focus is on the work of the builder Jakub Bursa. He was born in Dolní Nakvasovice on 21 July 1813. In Bušanovice, the Bursa farmstead No. 12 dates from 1852; its granary gable features bulbous columns. House No. 13 has a preserved gable dating from 1860. House No. 27 features decorations by Jakub Bursa on the façade of the dwelling and on the gate of the farmstead. They date from 1844 and were later altered. The individual dates show that the historical traces are not limited to a single building.

Further Cultural Traces in the Surrounding Area

Dolní Nakvasovice is also connected with Jakub Bursa: he rebuilt farmstead No. 9 there in 1847. In Želibořice, the portal of the granary stands on the site of a former 15th-century fortress. The granite saddle portal is located on the southwest façade of the granary. Here you will encounter a range of historical details – from decorated gables and columns to a distinctive portal at an older fortified site.

A Route Connected with Jakub Bursa

The “In the Footsteps of Jakub Bursa” route passes through Bušanovice. It thus takes up a theme that is visible in several houses and farmsteads in the village. When planning your trip, you can therefore explore Bušanovice both through the landscape of the Čkyně area and through its preserved and altered architectural forms.
