Discover Kluky: Trails, History and Culture

Kluky lies on the Chřešťovský stream in the Písecké hory and combines experiences in nature with a remarkably multifaceted local history. For your travel planning, the village is particularly interesting if you would like to combine hiking or cycling with small cultural and historical discoveries. The blue marking provides hikers on this route with simple orientation between Na Křižatkách and Chřešťovice.

Hiking and Cycling Trails through Kluky

Cycling Route 1016 runs through Kluky from Údraž via Mlaka and U Hromové jedle to Křižatka. Cycling Route 1017 connects Kluky with Písek and Albrechtice nad Vltavou via Chrastiny, Chřešťovice, Jehnědno and Údraž. This makes it possible to consider different route courses and directions for planning, rather than viewing the village only as the starting point of a single route. The two routes differ in their sequence of intermediate places and directions. This allows you to consider various directions and intermediate destinations when planning. The surroundings of Kluky are suitable for hiking and cycling; the landscape, villages and route course combine to create different experiences.

History from the 13th Century to the Present

Kluky was first mentioned in writing in 1323. Another historical reference is provided by ceramic fragments from the 13th century that were found in Kluky and recorded in the inventory book of the Písek Museum. The ceramic fragments complement the written first mention with material traces. The village also has a more recent architectural reminder in the form of the small Kostelík Panny Marie church, dedicated to the Virgin Mary: construction began in 1947, and it was completed in 1948 together with the enclosing wall and cemetery furnishings. Its building history therefore covers the start and completion of construction within two consecutive years.

Architecture and Places of Remembrance

House No. 18 in the center of Kluky demonstrates the influence of the so-called vernacular Baroque. It was built around 1791 by Tomáš Fiala as a manorial cottage on land belonging to the estate owner. This building allows its form, date of origin and the ownership of the land at the time to be considered together. A monument to Jan Hus was erected in Hořice on the initiative of the teacher Jan Zoubek. The monument creates its own commemorative focal point beside the historic house.

Another Reason for Planning a Trip

A round of the Czech Junior Motocross Championship took place on 12 September at the Kloucká Hořice motocross track in Kluky u Písku. Alongside the trails and cultural and historical topics, this adds a sporting element. This aspect broadens the view of Kluky to include an event from the world of motorsport.
