Jestrebice: Cultural History and Cycling
Jestřebice combines an engaging local history with cycling opportunities and recreational areas by a body of water. In the central area, there is a small park and the Chapel of the Holy Trinity. Southeast of the village are larger sports and recreational areas, while cycling routes connect Jestřebice with Veselíčko and the Milevsko region. If you are looking for accommodation in Jestrebice, you can therefore plan your stay around culture, cycling, or regional recreation.
Chapel and History in the Village Center
The Chapel of the Holy Trinity is protected as a cultural monument under registration number 25189/3-2538. Its architectural form is defined by a large hexagonal nave and a smaller rectangular presbytery, which is closed on three sides. The presbytery is the part of a church or chapel assigned to the altar area. The hexagonal shape of the nave and the three-sided termination of the presbytery give the building a clearly articulated form. Together with the small park, the chapel forms a clear cultural focal point in the central area of Jestřebice.
The history of the village also reaches far back. Jestřebice is first mentioned in 1379. In the 13th century, Jestřebice belonged to the property of the Archbishop of Prague in Týn. After the Battle of White Mountain, the village belonged to the estate of the Premonstratensian Order in Milevsko. An insight into the rural structure is provided by the mid-18th century: at that time, Jestřebice had 13 larger farmsteads, and 158 hectares of arable land were cultivated. The local history thus encompasses both ecclesiastical ownership structures and the economic influence of larger farmsteads and arable land.
Cycling Between Jestřebice, Veselíčko, and Milevsko
A local cycling route passes through Jestřebice. To the west, it connects to regional KČT cycling route No. 31 to Veselíčko. The cycling circuit through the Milevsko region runs along paved roads and firm forest paths and is suitable for trekking bikes and mountain bikes.
The two routes represent different forms of cycling. The local route passes through Jestřebice and has a connection to Veselíčko; the circuit in the Milevsko region combines paved roads with firm forest paths. If you are traveling with different types of bicycles, the circuit’s explicit suitability for trekking bikes and mountain bikes is helpful information when choosing your route.
Body of Water, Sports Areas, and Kupa
Southeast of Jestřebice, larger sports and recreational areas lie on the edge of a body of water. The body of water is used by residents for various community events. This area adds another locally rooted focal point to the historic village center. The body of water is therefore part not only of the recreational area but also of the residents’ community life. The southeastern areas complement the small park in the central area with a larger space for sports and recreation. Kupa u Jestřebic lies at an elevation of 503 meters above sea level. The Rozhledna Na Kupě observation tower near Jestřebice is accessible by car.
