Discover Hodonice: Nature, Culture and Cycling

Hodonice combines a distinctive natural area with local culture and a documented cycle route. The Židova strouha natural monument is particularly characteristic, while the Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk and the annual Memoriál Václava Drdy add their own cultural accents.

Židova strouha: Gorge-like natural area

The Židova strouha natural monument covers part of the cadastral area of Hodonice u Bechyně. The protected natural area includes an incised, gorge-like valley with deeply carved meanders and rock walls eroded by water. As a result, this excursion destination is not defined solely by a stream, but by a distinctly shaped landscape with narrow sections of valley, a winding watercourse and visible traces of erosion.

The Židova strouha geotope extends along the stream from the Hodonice–Nuzice dirt road to its confluence with the Lužnice. The section lies between 0.8 km west and 2.5 km northwest of Hodonice. This gives you a specific geographical orientation for planning your trip: the natural feature is associated with Hodonice, but extends along the stream across a longer section of the landscape.

Orientation for exploring on foot

The geotope can be reached via a walkable tourist path that runs more than 250 metres from the road. This feature makes the route itself an important part of the orientation. You can experience the natural area not merely as a viewpoint, but as a section of landscape whose valley shape, meanders and water-eroded rock walls define the character of the natural monument.

Chapel and local event

Hodonice itself also offers a cultural point of interest: the Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk in Hodonice was renovated in 2008. For a stay focused on local buildings, it provides a clearly identifiable site that complements the nature experiences with an aspect of cultural history.

Another form of local culture is the Memoriál Václava Drdy. The Hodonice Volunteer Fire Brigade organises this event annually. The event therefore represents a recurring date in the town and offers another perspective on local life alongside the landscape and excursion routes.
