Haškovcova Lhota combines a landscape shaped by fields, meadows and forests with remarkable traces of village and regional history. The Lužnice forms the eastern boundary of the landscape, while the Smutná stream marks its western boundary. This creates a destination where an archaeological nature trail, a historic trade route and small reminders of rural life are closely connected with the village.

Landscape between the Lužnice and Smutná

The two rivers provide the area around Haškovcova Lhota with a clear geographical orientation. To the east, the landscape around the village is bounded by the Lužnice, and to the west by the Smutná stream. In between lie fields, meadows and forests that define the character of the surrounding area.

A striking tree stands at the entrance to Haškovcova Lhota near house no. 1: a linden tree grows there and is considered the oldest tree in the village. Its age is unknown; judging by the circumference of its trunk, however, it is clearly older than the two chestnut trees planted in 1887. The tree adds a visible piece of local history to the landscape without requiring a major excursion.

Archaeological nature trail along the Smutná

The archaeological nature trail can be followed as an approximately 15-kilometre excursion on both sides of the Smutná stream. Below Haškovcova Lhota, it crosses the stream via a footbridge. The route includes seven information stations, combining physical activity with a gradual exploration of the region’s past.

The approximate length of 15 kilometres provides clear guidance when planning your day, while the seven stations divide the route into individual thematic points. Those wishing to combine nature and history will find a concrete opportunity here to explore the surroundings of Haškovcova Lhota.

Village history and visible reminders

The chapel of Haškovcova Lhota stands on the village green. It was built in 1856 and has a bell. The bell is operational and rings every Sunday at 12 noon. South of the village there is also a wayside shrine dating from approximately the first half of the 19th century. Together with the chapel and the old linden tree, these details make the village’s history immediately visible in several places.

The history of transport also extends beyond the village. A historic trade route ran through Haškovcova Lhota from Mirotice via Orlík, Milevsko, Sepekov, Hánov, Srlín, Rataje and Bechyně to Soběslav. For orientation in the area, it is also recorded that, from 12 December 2022, bus services on route 390 248 between Bechyně and Opařany served the village green of Haškovcova Lhota. The playground on the village green was built in accordance with the order and had served its intended purpose since November of the previous year.
