Brodeslavy – Village History and Berounka Nature Park

Brodeslavy combines an unusually long village history with a landscape shaped by Berounka Nature Park. In the village itself, you will encounter historic traces, a 19th-century chapel, a small pond and Brodeslavský Brook. At the same time, the local Kralovice III cycling route passes through the municipal area. Brodeslavy therefore offers several different starting points for a trip: cultural and historical discoveries, a distinct village character and a natural environment that extends beyond the village centre.

The History of Brodeslavy

Brodeslavy was first mentioned in 1144. Until the beginning of the Hussite Wars in 1419, the village belonged to the estates of Plasy Cistercian Monastery. This connection places Brodeslavy within the medieval history of the region and makes clear that the village was documented long before it acquired its present form.

In 1559, Brodeslavy became part of the Kaceřov estate of the influential Florián Gryspek. Several historical periods are therefore important when placing the village in context: its first mention, its earlier affiliation with Plasy Monastery and its later transfer to the Kaceřov estate. Those interested in history can thus view Brodeslavy not only through individual buildings, but also through its changing ownership.

At the centre of the village stands a rectangular chapel dating from 1877. Its two small turrets give the building a clearly recognisable appearance. Another testament to local life is the Brodeslavy cemetery. It is well maintained and in use, but lies outside the village on the road towards Bohy. The chapel and cemetery are therefore located at different points in the village landscape and cannot be understood as a single site.

Landscape Between the Village and the Nature Park

The cadastral area of Brodeslavy belongs to Berounka Nature Park. The nature park protects the landscape character of the deeply incised Berounka Valley and its tributaries, the rock outcrops, the adjacent forest complexes and the agricultural landscape. The protected landscape character therefore extends beyond Brodeslavy’s built-up village centre.

There are also small, clearly identifiable natural features in the centre. A small pond is located there, while Brodeslavský Brook flows through the village. This creates a transition in the perception of the village between its built-up centre, the watercourse and the broader nature park area.

Cycling Route and Different Travel Interests

The local Kralovice III cycling route runs through the municipal area of Brodeslavy. It complements the cultural and historical points of interest with a specific connection to cycling. For people travelling together with different interests, this combination provides a particularly useful basis for further planning: while the chapel, cemetery and ownership history form the cultural framework, the pond, brook, nature park and cycling route represent Brodeslavy’s landscape side.
