Dolní Bělá: Castle Ruins, Nature Trail and Chapels

Dolní Bělá combines historical traces with marked routes and a nature trail that offers a special way to explore the surrounding area. Those who want to combine culture and outdoor activities during their stay will find several clearly distinct experiences here: the ruins of Bělá Castle on a promontory above the Bělá stream, the listed Hus Chapel, and routes for hiking and cycling.

Nature Trail and Routes through Dolní Bělá

The Ludvík Otčenášek Nature Trail is 13 kilometres long and has 15 stations. It runs through the cadastral area of Dolní Bělá and ends there. The nature trail is accessible year-round, well maintained and marked with green hiking signs. The 15 stations are located along a year-round, well-maintained route marked in green through the cadastral area of Dolní Bělá. It is also suitable for hikers and cyclists. This means that the route can be explored on foot or by bicycle depending on your preferred focus, without implying that the two forms of transport must be treated as equivalent.

For orientation by bicycle, cycle route 35A is also available. It runs through the cadastral area of Dolní Bělá and is part of the Baroko cycling routes. A green-marked hiking route also leads into the cadastral area of Dolní Bělá and partly follows the Ludvík Otčenášek Nature Trail. This gives you a dedicated nature trail, a cycle route and a partly parallel hiking route to choose from when planning your trip.

Bělá Castle Ruins with Views over the Village and Countryside

The ruins of Bělá Castle lie on a promontory above the Bělá stream. The remains include a moat, a massive rampart and a semicircular earthwork. The castle core also includes a fragment of wall supported by three buttresses.

The surviving remains of Bělá Castle offer a beautiful view of Dolní Bělá and the surrounding countryside. The ruin has been listed as a cultural monument since 1958. For a stay focused on history and the landscape, this creates a destination where the architectural traces and the view over the village are directly connected.

Hus Chapel and the Chapel of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary

The Hus Chapel has been protected as a historic monument since 2012. It is an Evangelical sacred building in the Functionalist style, dating from 1938–1939. Its period of construction and clear stylistic classification distinguish it significantly from the medieval remains of Bělá Castle.

Another feature of cultural and historical interest is the Chapel of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary. It stands on the cadastral boundary with the municipality of Horní Bělá and has been listed as a cultural monument since 2003. Together with the Hus Chapel and the castle, it documents various periods and forms of sacred and defensive architectural history in the surroundings of Dolní Bělá.
