Discover Hvozd: Forests, Culture and Cycling

Hvozd combines an open landscape with remarkable historical traces. The village lies on a gently sloping upland and is surrounded on three sides by a large, largely uninhabited complex of the Manětín Forests. Hvozd was first mentioned in writing in 1253. A visible landmark of the village is the Chapel of Saint John the Baptist on the northern side of the village green. It has a rectangular ground plan, a semicircular ending, a gabled roof and a roof turret. The historic furnishings also include the statue of the Archangel Michael, erected in 1772 by Terezie Lažanská, née z Lisova. The small square Hillfort Hradiště Vyšehrad is also located in the Hodoviz cadastral area of the municipality of Hvozd, on a rocky spur. Stone ramparts measuring 0.5 to 1 metre in height have survived from the site. This place complements the chapel and statues with another historical stop, whose location on a rocky spur vividly conveys the character of the archaeological site.

The 37-kilometre “Baroko II” route runs through Hodovíz, the “Hvozd bus” section and Dražeň.
