Roupov

Roupov combines an impressive medieval relic with marked trails and a clearly described cycling route. This makes the place suitable for travelers who want to combine historical discoveries with outdoor activities and who, when choosing accommodation, consider not just a single excursion destination but the character of their entire stay.

Castle Ruins, Chapel and Preserved Granaries

Northwest of Červené Poříčí Chateau lies the extensive ruin of Roupov Gothic Castle. Its most distinctive surviving feature is a slender, octagonal chimney from the castle kitchen dating from the 16th century. The core of the old castle is situated on a rocky ridge above the village, giving the visit a clearly recognizable historical setting.

The ruins of Roupov Castle are freely accessible except for the inhabited part. Opposite the access path to the castle stands the Chapel of Saint Anne. It was built in 1696 on the site of an older castle chapel. Pilgrimages held at this chapel every July used to be well attended. This former tradition is part of the history of the place and should not be confused with an announcement of a current event.

Roupov’s smaller architectural history can also be read in several places. In front of the castle, on sloping ground, stands a massive three-story granary. Wooden granaries have also been preserved in the former farmsteads at house numbers 21, 25, 31, and 44. Overall, this means that you will encounter granaries both directly in front of the castle and at several former farmsteads in the village. Near the large granary stands a small masonry chapel with a niche. Inside it is an almost life-size Baroque stone statue of Saint John of Nepomuk.

Hiking and Cycling Around Roupov

Blue and green hiking trails are marked in Roupov. Another way to orient yourself is provided by Via Ludmila I: at Lužanský rybník, it follows a green-marked trail toward Dlouhá Louka and the ruins of Roupov Castle. This allows bodies of water, the trail route, and historical discovery to be considered as part of a single excursion plan, without combining the individual destinations into an unsupported route.

For a cycling tour, Route No. 2186 runs from Roupov via Dlouhá Louka, Lužany, Příchovice, Radkovice, and Horšice to Měčín. The route is classified as easy, runs on roads, and has a stated duration of 92 minutes.

Further Impressions for Planning Your Stay

Roupov also has a public outdoor swimming pool. In addition to the castle, chapel, hiking trails, and cycling route, this provides a choice of different types of activities. To compare other travel destinations, you can also view Srby Nad Úslavou, Ždírec, Přestavlky U Dnešic, Zemětice, Lužany U Přeštic, Jarov U Blovic, Stod and Louňová.
